  • We're not going to get crazy low prices on the new iPhones. Profits are always thin for the retailer anyway.

Generally many people just sell their current one and use that to go towards the new one.

  • Ok so I'm after a new iPhone

New, or "new to you"? I imagine a lot of rich(er) or less financially frugal people will be off-loading old iPhones to buy the new one, but it'd be a gamble if you end up with a decent unit or a thrashed/locked/stolen one.

    • yea shoulda clarified that…an upgrade. :)

  • It's a bit early to find the older models discounted. I think only Apple has adjusted so far. JB-Hi-Fi is clearing out the iPhone X at $1079 but Apple is selling the XR at $1049 anyway.

Well, you won't get a cent for your kidney (or any other parts) in Australia. So iPhone is not an option. :-)

  • I plan on using my $500 JBHIFI card to further discount the iPhone X $1079 to $579.

    • When JBHFI catches up to the new pricing, you could get the XR for $1049 - 500 = $549

Yes I am torn, it is for my wife and she wants the X due to size.
(I have spent years convincing her smaller is better :-P )

But then the 11 is also in the same region as well.

How's that marriage working for you?

        • I'll say get the 11. The ultra wide camera and night mode worth it. Also the A13 chip will be much faster than the A11 in the X. And 11 has a 4 Gb ram comparing to 3 in X and XR.

If you get a $1079 gift card, it's a free phone!

If price is an issue don't get a new iphone. keep your old one or go android

  • The best value iPhone for 2017-2020 seems to be the iPhone 7 Plus (128GB).

It still offers a great display, performance, battery life, software, water resistance, and biometrics. Even the cameras are decent.

Sure the styling might seem old, but it's still built finely. And the newest devices aren't actually a massive upgrade in any category, but rather incremental upgrades all over. It's like comparing a Samsung S7 Edge to a Samsung S10 in 2019.

I've just upgraded from an s7 to the a70. And I can safely say it's a massive gap.

I'll say go for the 8 if anyone is looking for an old model. I owned a 7+ and my gf owns a 8+. The 8 has wireless charging, 18w fast charging support and a truetone display, which is something you can't go back once you got used to. Also the CPU in the 8 is much much smoother than the one from the 7, judging from my experience on both phones.
