Help Me Decide on a Fridge

Hi guys, I am looking at these two fridges on Applicances Online ebay.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Kelvinator-453L-Bottom-Mountโ€ฆ

They seem to be almost same except one is top amounted and the other bottom mounted. Is it worth going for the bottom mounted one for extra $100?

I prefer freezer on top - I find it to be a more usable space without the bottom mount drawers.

  • nuh…

You pay more and get less L's.

Go look at them both in a store before you decide.

    Bottom mount..

The fridge is much more easily accessible on the top and you use it more frequent compared to the freezer.

And I prefer freezer at bottom, since you don't need to bend all the time and you only use it once in a while.

    • Freezer = ice cream ๐Ÿฆ = daily use :)

      • fridge with beer/wine and cheese, more frequently use ;)

        • Fridge always gets more use, but freezer and "once in a while" does not compute :)

  • Quality control leaves a lot to be desired…

    • productreview.com.au is a worst place to look for, if you after product reviews.
People who had issues usually show their frustration in productreview.com.au.eg 2.2 out of five reviews, I bet at least they sold like 1000 units.

Oh for sure, it's certainly not the be all and end all.

It can be a good place for reviews left months after ownership. Store sites tend to chase reviews straight away, whereas the disgruntled ones will review it months later on Product Review

Bottom Mount 100% could never go back to the other.

I prefer fridge on top and freezer on bottom so bottom mount for me.

But honestly the best one convenience wise not energy wise I have seen was the split door down the middle type fridge with the freezer behind the left door and the fridge behind the right door but I think those are more expensive and probably terrible for energy saving.

I am curious however which fridge type would run cheaper if you stocked them with the same amount and type of products basically an apples to apples comparison with exact same usage number of compartment opens etc which would use more energy and why.

My guess is the fridge with the freezer on the bottom mount would run cheaper because less cold air would escape every time you opened it because it was already on the bottom but I wish someone would try this and test it and report back to us the results (every time you open the fridge the cold air inside rushes out because of displacement or whatever that physics theory or law is called and so the refrigerator has to work hard to put it back to the same temperature every time you open the fridge or freezer) quick science.

Ultimately if you want the most cost effective fridge or freezer get a large chest fridge/freezer - these are the ones that you look down into when you open it kind of like the ice cream fridges but with a non see through lid or cover.

These are so energy efficient because there is no lost temperature when opening the lid to get something because the air has no where to fall out every time you open the fridge where as the upright fridge the air falls straight out every time you open it; so running costs can be reduced if using a chest fridge with a custom thermostat that optimises the amount of refrigeration needed (you don't need the refrigeration running all the time if you just want a fridge and not a freezer) .

Here is a link to probably the greatest site I know in the world regarding this and they are Australian which makes it even better his other articles about his farm and ranch are all great honestly the best read I have had in years being on the internet.

I keep telling myself whoever brings this knowledge to the public and capitalises on this will not only be doing a great service to the environment and ultimately us humans but will a business boom easily overnight it is an untapped potential as most proper forward direction things and initiatives are but ah well that's society for ya.

Anyone got Ruslan Kogan's number I bet he would jump on this ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜…

Also lastly but this is just me but I would go for a plastic outer layer fridge because of blind dot electric shock (I forgot the school playground saying it was probably super racist or offensive in since way but basically what I am trying to say is metal outer layer equals zap zap hello good morning did you like that? and plastic outer layer equals peace of mind no owie boo boo zap zap omg I just had a heart attack).

Same logic applies to kettles, door knobs and anything you put your hand on; metallic outer layer equals electric shock anxiety.

    Happy deciding.
