    nearly 700+ solar companies
which are listed on the ASIC website since 2011 as being closed, in liquidation, administrators
    appointed or proposed de-registration

What is the chance of these businesses are still operating?

      with same name? low
      with another? high
      .

      • I be more worried about businesses which are about to get into that list, crystal ball anyone?? :)

  • title seems misleading. just because they are winding up doesn't make them "dodgy". at least one company listed doesn't appear to have anything to do with solar energy: "solar d skincare"

    • And it didn't even end up being wound up.

Indicative of the huge churn in the industry.

If you've bought a system from any of those listed installers, any warranty you thought you might have will be gone with them. Good luck with claims against the manufacturer unless you have a truly reputable brand like LG themselves.

This is a side effects of any type of government schemes, ie murray darling water buyback ( tons of water trades pops up), insulation scheme, solar rebate scheme? You need to in it to win it.

The company I purchased my system through Pheonixed within a few weeks of going 'broke' with the same staff and selling the same equipment.

Fortunately I haven't had any issues otherwise I'd be up ship creek.

The only way a consumer can be protected is if the installer lodges a sizeable deposit into a fund that is backed 100% by the Government.

    Not going to happen.

  • Never trust a fly-by-night solar company.

  • This is why i went with Origin, were not much more than local company's and had 2 years IF. Was a great local electrician that did the install anyway.
Not one drama then and 2 years on now.

  • Just found this. I used to do some solar sales when I was a student. I quit after not getting paid and getting the run around by the company, and opposing what they were doing ethically. A few others left with alot more money being owed.

Looks as if the company went insolvent soon after. And then a quick google shows that it was rebirthed a few times.
