    • Price reduced by 30 cents which is a bargain now

      • Can you reduce it by $1.49?

I set mine up with a fuse tap and a cigarette lighter socket.

wouldn't even need to fuse tap. Just hard wire it to the cigarette lighter wire. Not like your dashcam is going to add much load to that circuit.

If you want parking mode the cigarette lighter is not a good point.
You may want to investigate tapping the overhead light next to your glasses box, above the mirror. This will also take power wire out of the way and allow you to hide the GPS sensor (if any).

Usually not a good idea as most newer cars' interior light circuit feeds are controlled by the BEM (Body Module) and cut power to the circuit after a period of time or when the battery voltage drops to a certain level. This is to prevent the battery going flat if a door is ajar or light is left on when the vehicle's locked.

I've done 2 cars and getting to the cigarette lighter is way easier than interior light. It's not in the way at all, if you have trouble fitting 1 hardwire behind your dash you have problems.
Plus my RAV4 cuts power to the interior lights when i lock the car.

          • @bogak: Good point about the power cut by BEM, forgot about that…
But isn't the cigarette lighter cut off when you power off the car?

In the Jeep I had there was a secondary socket labeled AUX which was not cutting off.
The Patrol I now have does not turn off the overhead lights.

            • @cristtos: Depends on the car, my RAV4 has two cigarette lighter sockets, the one in the center console compartment stays on but i've wired mine to the one behind the dash as i don't want my dashcam to stay on and drain the battery. I am looking at getting a dedicated battery pack to keep the dashcams recording but alas, they cost $400 so i'm hesitating on spending that much.

      • Is it easy to tap into the cig lighter?

Am I missing something, or wouldn't tapping into the 12v to the back of the headunit the easiest place?

Does this kit include fuse tap?

  • When the car power supply voltage drops to 11.6V it automatically turn off the camera

    Really? Bit low.
