    Synology has far superior software. If you're only after DAS though, there's no point in having a $500 unit to house drives.

    You would be in a tiny minority of NAS buyers who actually use them as glorified hard drives.
    
    Unless you were talking about using a NAS only as a personal cloud storage server and not for anything local, in which case, signing up for free or paid cloud storage accounts is a much cheaper, simpler and purpose-built option for a majority of users.

If you need iScsi for anything, definitely the Synology, the QNaps seem to fall over under decent iScsi load, but otherwise, these do ok for what they are.
