If you bought it, how is the previous owner unknown?

Its a paper weight without them unlocking it.

It might be worth looking in to jailbreaking solutions since the operating system is only iOS 9 at the latest?

Ok, just to be clear, no other OS can be installed on an iPad. I don't know why that's even an option. That's just nonsense. Any OS you could install would not have support for any of the hardware. Good luck using an iPad with no touch screen support.

Second, Activation locks are hard locks. They are UNBREAKABLE*. Without the previous person putting in the password it will never be unlocked. It is the single best theft-proof system for electronic devices in the world. Doesn't stop people stealing your device but means they have an immobile brick that they cannot sell if they do, meaning that thieves who've been through this experience will walk straight past iPhone users because they know better and will target someone with a Samsung instead.

HOWEVER, that had an asterisk, didn't it ? Yep, it did. Ignore these people saying stuff about
"jailbreaking". That's a solution that applies to an existing, installed, unlocked system. You can't jailbreak a locked device. The first thing iTunes asks you to do when you try to upload a firmware is to unlock the device. The reason this is a "however" is that you CAN bypass an iCloud activation lock. Hackers in Vietnam know how to do this this. They are the pioneers in this field. They do it by actually opening up the phone and desoldering one of the chips and swapping it out for another chip that contains a different ID number in it. And you just won't find one of those shops in Australia. And it's also very expensive.

There IS a way to do it via software on older devices only, and it applies ONLY to Wifi device because the activation routine can be sort of bypassed, but you will never get 3G/4G functionality working again, which is why it is meaningless for iPhones because who wants an iPhone that can't use 4G ? However, on older devices only, there is a way you can bypass an activation lock. It's NOT easy. It's a very tiresome, difficult procedure. If you've ever tried to downgrade iOS a 32 bit ARM 7 device without SHSH keys, it's similar to that. It involves a heap of tools and lookup tables. It takes even an expert iPhone hacker a good bit of time. You won't do it yourself if you don't have lots of experience in doing this. Don't bother. Throw it away. It's a useless brick.

Source: I run an iPhone repair and hacking shop… in Saigon, so don't bother asking me to do it for you. I'm not interested.

    • appreciate your time and effort. I will get rid of it as parts only

  • ApowerUnlock ?

    • this is next to impossible mate.

  • Yes, it can be unlocked, but is time-consuming and expensive. The process requires desoldering the harddisk chip and placing it on a device similar to a MIJING. You can then plug the device into the computer and rewrite the info by calculating the SN.
