Anyone want to sell Indonesian Money (IDR - Indonesian Rupiah)

Going to Bali in November and just want to know if anyone has some money they want to sell. You always get ripped at the money exchanges here, so it would be win win for both of us.

  • Don't stress too much, just buy over there…it's not a biggie! Just look for money changers with the best rate and NO COMMISSION; I can't stress that last part enough…that's how the dodgy ones will try to stitch you up…attractive looking rates & the commission ends up being exhorbitant with their fancy calculator work!

If in doubt, just ask around a bit; the good ones are usually well known in most areas; and the no commission ones are a straightforward deal…just change in even amounts to make counting easier for you, say $100 lots! ;)

  • The money changers are the airport at DPS give reasonably good rates. You'll probably be better off changing with them then the more dodgy ones on the streets.

  • Awesome thanks for the replies! I have been to Bali before so know about the dodgy ones. I found a good money changer at the Matahari in Kuta so ill probably go back to them. Was really just looking for some cash of the taxi ride etc.. thought some one may have some money they have lying around and dont need. :)

  • If you are changing a reasonable amount of money it's worth it to go to Kuta Central (everyone knows this place.) They have the best rates and are 100% trustworthy. They have a few branches.

  • In AUS we buy from Australia Post - you get a reasonable rate but not as good as Bali. We usually use BMC in Bali but here are a few other generally reputable ones-

    Kodak Shops
    Fuji Shops
    Airport Money Changers
PT Bali Maspintjinra, Kuta Jl Sriwinjays No 16A
BMC Seminyak PT Bali Maspintjinra(opposite Bintang Supermarket, next to Sip restaurant on the Kuta side.)
PT Bali Maspintjinra, Head office Jl Raya Seminyak No 16A
PT Bali Maspintjinra, Sanur, Jl Danau Tamblingan No 18
PT Bali Maspintjinra also has offices in Makassar and Lombok

    • I never knew AusPost did currency exchanges.

      • +1

AP rates are generally better than the banks.

  • Thanks for the tip on Aust Post

    • We got a exchange rate of about 8500IDR from Aus Post in June & 8950 -9080 in Bali - So not a big difference if your only grabbing a few hundred $ to get you past the 1st day. Definately leave the big $ for exchange in Bali. You may be aware you need $25USD to get a Visa on arrival & we also grab those $ at AP, although you could just pay in AUD.

      • Isnt it $50 usd?

        • $25USD each so if 2 travelling it is $50USD

        • lol yeah 2 of us haha

  • If you want to know rates from a currency exchanger over there, take a look at:
    http://www.balibestrate.com/dmoneychanger.php

    Then compare at XE:
    http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amount=1&From=AUD&To=IDR

It's all good knowing the XE rate, but when you get over there it's good to know the 'real' rate from the money changers :)

    • Great info!! Will defiantly use this

  • If you bank with Commonwealth there are ATM's in Bali. I think they only charge $1.50 per transaction and the exchange rate is reasonable.

I normally get my balinese mates to exchange money for me so I dont get Bule rates.

    • Yeah I noticed that but I only had an ANZ card so the charge was quite bigger :( but nice and easy tho
