Your Game of The Year for 2019

So as we are approaching the end of 2019 and the conversations are starting, what's your personal game of the year for 2019?

For me so far I think it's been Astral Chain. I was a big fan of the Bayonetta Titles on Wii U and wasn't expecting as much out of Astral Chain, but I think it has surpassed Bayonetta for me.

Second place goes to Super Mario Maker 2 and special mentions to Untitled Goose Game and My Friend Pedro.

Other than that, most titles I've played this year have been older games I've been catching up on so to speak, that I've never played before as they've been released on Switch. (E.g. Hellblade, Doom (1993), What Remains of Edith Finch, Red Faction Guerilla).

I've not played much else outside of Switch releases this year as you can probably tell, but I'm interested to see what other people rate from the other platforms :)

Not released in 2019, but the negs are a bit harsh.

  • Blade & Sorcery

  • Honestly I'm still waiting for

    Pokemon sword and shield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_dgvgpC8Nw
Star wars jedi falled order looks interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8939aURV9Dc

    Hopefully will be good

  • Resident Evil 2 Remake

  • Honestly, haven't bought any games in 2019. At least none which were made in 2019.
My list of most memorable games goes something like:

Tetris, Lode Runner, Super Mario Bro, Pokemon Red, Legacy of Goku 2,
Duke Nukem, Quake 3, Tekken 3, Mario Kart 64, Age of Mythology, Abe's Odyssey,
Soul Reaver 2, Crash Bandicoot 3, Tony Hawks ProSkater 2, FIFA, Jak Dexter 2,
GTA Vice City, Midnight Club 3, NFS Underground 2, Gran Turismo 4,
Metal Gear Solid 3, Super Mario Bro Wii, Spore, N Game,
CoD 4, CoD Black Ops 2, Uncharted 2, Red Dead Redemption, GTA V, The Last of Us,
Plague Inc, Fallout Shelter, Superhot, Infamous 3, Doom, Uncharted 4, God of War

The Division 2 won't win anything but was probably my main fav this year.

  • +3

I bought Forza Horizon 4, but tbh 3 was better and I don't think it was just the Australia element. Seasons in 4 can be annoying if you just wanna jump into the game and race.

  • +1

Division 2 , Final fantasy 8 remaster or the new zelda remaster

Possibly new pokemon game or mhw dlc

    Years not over mate.

      Did I say it was?

  • I really loved Control and Gears 5 but yeah still months of wall to wall AAA bangers releasing until 2020!

    • Like what?

      • COD, Death Stranding, Pokemon, to name a few. All are gonna be massive but I'm not going to be able to pass up COD. That open beta was fire (Y)

      • +1

I'm looking forward to the new Ghost recon. Loved the last one, though I know it wasn't all that popular.

And if anyone was on the fence for that game, or any Ubisoft one for that matter, you can try it out on release on the Uplay Plus service ($19.99 AUD/month) and don't forget to cancel if you don't want to spend $240/yr !

@CookieCounter: thanks - good suggestion - I might end up playing this one for quite a while so may just buy normally.

@Geoff-bargain: Yeah I wouldn't recommend it for you, hopefully you can pickup for $69 from amazon or locally :)

    Danger wank.

  • GRIS

    • What makes Gris special? I've been interested for quite some time, but have never been 100% certain on the idea of it

Any similar games you can think of?

  • It has been a long time since I played a video-game but Untitled Goose Game looks pretty good.

  • I've played a fair bit of games I liked this year but the one that stuck out from the rest would be Days Gone.

Personal favourite so far this year.

  • +2

    Honk

  • Days Gone.

It had some technical issues, the story had some pacing issues and cringe moments. Ojectively, it's not the best game to release this year. But I loved every minute of it.

  • +1

Astral Chain. Closely followed by Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

    • +1

I just finished Astral Chain the other day. Possibly one of my favourite games ever. The story was good, but the gameplay loop was so satisfying right through to the end of my 24 hour playthrough

  • Sekiro and mhw:iceborne for me. Will have to wait and see if death stranding is any good.

  • For me it was The Cycle

    https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/thecycle/home

The Cycle is a Competitive Quest Shooter or PvEvP for insiders.

You play as a prospector sent on Fortuna III, a living and unstable planet swarming with hostile alien wildlife.

Compete or deal a fragile pact with other Prospectors to claim as many resources as possible.

Having so much fun with others finding out about this game it is free to play which makes it even so much better because I have played many AAA games that were not as fun as this.

  • Slay the Spire on the Switch for mine.

Even with all the amazing AA titles that have come out, I keep going back to it.
