Stupid pricing in computer parts and what causes it?

last few months ive been tracking second hand market and also rrp for computer parts for example

https://www.mwave.com.au/product/intel-core-i7-7700k-quad-co…

https://www.mwave.com.au/product/intel-core-i7-9700k-octa-co…

how the hell 7th gen i7 is almost same price as 9th gen i7

and wtf is wrong with people trying to sell their products for almost rrp ?

am i the only one getting disturbed by this shit ?

    Nope pricing isn't wrong.

People who stupidly bought those Core i3/i5 cheap systems, hoping to upgrade later. So there's a big demand, little supply. Because there's no upgrade path (otherwise they need to buy both an expensive CPU and Motherboard)

They could've avoided the issue by buying a used/older Intel system. Or went over-budget and built with the Core i7.
Or you know, went to the AM4 platform with AMD's Ryzen.

  • Well legacy parts are no longer made, people dont want to upgrade their entire system so these parts are expensive.

Certain parts have specialty uses eg hackentosh

You know what RRP stands for right.

  • because… Intel

  • Yea old premium parts rarely drop to a reasonable price before they are discontinued.

And you talking about people in second hand market trying to sell things near RRP? There has always been a fetish in the 2nd hand market for certain parts pushing up the price. Long ago I sold my PC components on eBay that 90% funded a brand new PC build that was 3x as good as what I had just sold. I don't really understand who is paying above odds for 2nd hand bits but if you are buying second hand you need to hunt / negotiate for the bargains.

  • like if i can get a 9th gen 9700k for around 600 and motherboard around 200 which is the cheapest 9th gen why would i bother grabbing a 8th gen or 7th gen if they arent cheap compared to newer generation

  • The actual "value" of an item is exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it.

I love looking at used items and having the owner let me know what it's "worth" (ie. what "they" paid).

Sorry, I never look to rip anyone off, but just because you paid too much doesn't mean you get to pass along your poor judgement to me.

    • what about the ones that actually pay normal but try to rip off people :)
