Buying Comprehensive Insurance for Imported 2007 Toyota Estima

Hi all,

I have just bought an imported 2007 Toyota Estima for our growing family and now trying to buy insurance for it.

Justcare used to be the best option for imported cars but i think they're no longer in business.

Does anyone know who offer insurance for imported cars beside : NRMA, Youi, Shannon ? NRMA quoted me close to $2800/year while Youi $1800/year. Not sure how much Shannon insurance cost, I can't seem to see if they offer online quote on their website.

I live in NSW.
Car: 2007 Toyota Estima 3.5L 2wd, 7 seaters.
I'm looking for a budget comprehensive car insurance for imported cars).

Many thanks all.

Perhaps talk to an insurance broker?

  • " NRMA quoted me close to $2800/year…"
….for a 12 y/o car that is crazy. I would just get TPP cover.

  • Shannon's wont insure that, not enthusiast car

they are underwritten by GIO, ask GIO

  • yes, the good old days of just cars. But not knowing how old you? it might not make a difference who you go with if your under 25 yo.

    • i'm 33.

      • Post code makes a fair bit of difference too.

  • Those prices seem quite high. I had to shop around for insurance recently for my modified european car. Most budget insurers wouldn't touch it due to the performance mods I had installed and others were well over $1k. Ended up going with NRMA for $720 full comprehensive for the year and they didn't care about the mods at all. I am rating 1, 40+ and the car is a 2012 2.0l turbo.

  • Isn't the Estima identical to the Tarago? I recall insuring an imported motorcycle with one of the big companies (NRMA?) a couple years ago and they used the statistics from a similar domestic model to create my policy

What does a quote for a 2007 Tarago come out with?

  • They can't be serious with that 2800$ quote. I have one of the rarest imported vehicles in australia and it only costs me $580 a year with NRMA. Unless your driving history is terrible (disqualifications, DUI, speeding tickets, multiple previous insurance claims) I can't see why they're charging so much.

    • That's the thing. My driving record is clean. Unless being living in Sydney South West area make such difference.

Budget Direct seem to insure Toyota Estima also but couldn't get an online quote. I may just gonna give them a call to see what they can offer.

  • sell it and buy a Tarago that's absurd.

  • Comprehensive insurance for a Toyota Estima? I need to let out of a chuckle…thats a complete waste of money. You won't miss your car if it gets destroyed nor will you pay much to replace it tbh. Just get third party property insurance for a few hundred bucks and get on with it. Comprehensive car insurance is only worth it for very expensive new cars ($35k and above).

  • I was legit going to buy an Estima a month or so ago but the insurance costs turned me off. You should always get insurance quotes before committing to buying a car.

    • I bought 2001 Estima 5 years ago because of the price difference in Tarago and Estima. I bought this 2001 Estima, 80k mileage for $11000 but couldn't find a Tarago in same condition for less than $20k~.
