Seeking Refund for Air Asia Flights (on No Refund Tickets)

Hi, I just booked some tickets from Air Asia yesterday.

And it says no refund.

I have found out some information today and i want to cancel and get a refund I paid on my credit card. Can I do a chargeback as it's only a day after ?

Or can I do anything else?

Thank you.

    it says no refund

How hard could this possibly be to understand?

You can try a charge back but I don't like your chances because there's no reason you're entitled to one.

    • How hard could this possibly be to understand?

Depends on how stubborn they are.

As stubborn as I am with consumer rights, no refund is no refund.

      • Wasn't there a whole thing with ACCC regarding Airlines and their dodgy practises regarding refunds?

ETA I was wrong, that was regarding cancelled flights. OP is shiz out of luck

Which is irrelevant because you aren't seeking a refund. Cool story.

  • Have you tried calling them to ask for leniency/credit?

That being said I wouldn't hold my breath as unless it's a passing, they probably won't even give you a credit note.

I have found out some information today and i want to cancel and get a refund

    What information?

If it’s a legit reason to cancel? What has Air Asia said? What has your travel insurance provider said ?

Lol. Hope your charge back is declined

OP do you remember that check box you ticked where you declared you understood, acknowledged and accepted the terms and conditions of the ticket you bought?

In 24 hours what has happened to that acknowledgement and understanding?

When should the cutoff be? 31 hours and 50 minutes?

      • 31 hours, 50 minutes, 23 seconds and 2 milliseconds

I do acknowledge some airlines are a bit more forgiving offering 24 hours to change/cancel and I've benefited from these on multiple occasions but AirAsia is not one of them.

  • Does you credit card provide travel insurance if you purchase airplane tickets on it? If it does, check the PDS if they cover cancellation and what criteria needs to be met

You can normally claim back the airport tax within 6 months following non-departure. You can get the tax back as credit or they'll charge $6 to process a refund to your card.

But some airlines will give you the whole fare to be used as credit as a gesture of goodwill if you call immediately after booking. But these budget SE Asian airlines might have to find a dictionary to translate the concept of goodwill first.

    • No profit = no deal.

    • I claimed the taxes back from them once. It was really easy and quick and I have no idea how they arrived at the figure they gave me. It was much higher than I was expecting. You have to wait until after the flight was though.

"Can i do a charge back as its only a day after ?"

You need a good reason to 'chargeback'.. It's not a magic lever to pull when you have a change of mind/circumstance.

    https://www.fos.org.au/small-business/merchant-chargebacks/

Some common reasons for chargebacks are:

    No cardholder authorisation
    Illegal transaction
    Forged signature on voucher
    Expired card
    Goods/services not supplied
Transaction over floor limit without authorisation
    Processing offline when terminal working

In US directly booked airlines tickets could be fully refunded within 24 hours.

    https://www.consumerreports.org/consumerist/all-major-u-s-ai…

US is progressive in this case (even though consumer protections are in general believed to be better in Australia). Hope it becomes normal practice in other jurisdictions as well.

On the flip side in the US they overbook flights.

    • However, price factors those laws in. Flights are cheaper in Oz and Asia.

  • The price is only offered in the first place based on no refunds. If you want refunds, pay more upfront on another airline.

  • Charge back on what grounds, have you received your e tickets. Or if they offer you a refund in an email not via phone so you have proof and they don't pay up, you may have a chance.

You still havent told us why you are canceling the tickets.

OP seems to be skirting around that question.

I'd imagine he found a cheaper flight

    • Realised they use Avalon?

Alternatively you could go in and ask if them for a refund and if they refuse you can ask about possible options to change dates to those that may suit you and cover difference of any extra costs this may involve? better than wasting a ticket

I have found out some information today

Found out that the ticket was non-refundable…

  • Can I do a chargeback as it's only a day after ?

You just answered your own question with

    it says no refund

    can I do anything else?

I hope you can, but I don’t think so. Goodluck

  • If you haven't had any success with the chargeback, you can get Taxes back
