TPG ADSL2 churn to Mate fee?

Hi all, just wondering if you could give me some advise. Trying to churn from TPG to Mate ADSL2.

However got an email from Mate:
"Our checks have confirmed that the phone line located at your premises xx is still active with another provider who are not using the Telstra network. Therefore MATE is unable to provide a service on the phone line in its current state."

From what I understand TPG uses Telstra's network?

Mate have stated I need to disconnect my current service before they can connect to the Telstra network but this will result in a $59 fee.

If any network gurus could give me an explanation would be good.

  • Is it currently a naked line?

    • Nah bundled with home phone as ADSL2 require line rental?

      • TPG uses a naked service (ULL) to deliver its ADSL and voice product.

  • Contact tpg and find out what network they are on, then use that information.

However i have never heard churning requiring your old provider and new provider to be on the same network to be no fee.

    • TPG advised I am on telstra infrastructure, weird. On the Subiaco exchange.

  • It all depends on what DSLAM you are on in the exchange, this will vary based on your location. It could be TPG's own equipment or it could be Telstra equipment being resold by TPG. The difference is called OffNet orOnNet.
