  • Personally I would only get something which I could try before I buy. Depending on where you live, maybe try to visit a Harvey Norman as they have quite a few various massaging-type devices, or for something a little more upmarket, consider OSIM which has pop up stores in certain malls.

IMO though, the leg/calf ones end up feeling awkward for me but my wife really liked this OSIM uStilleto she tried at the shops - but it cost like $600!

    • I know.. I have tried OSIM and they cost a bomb ..was looking for an alternate version to it

      • If you really like OSIM, it's usually cheaper in Singapore but you lose the warranty and need someone to carry it back (and these things can be surprisingly heavy).

I used to live in Singapore and bought a full OSIM massage chair. I love it, and even though it wasn't cheap at around $6k, to buy the same thing here would be $10k. Shipping wasn't cheap (but luckily I got it included as part of my relocation package) but I'd be cautious about the warranty on these things as I had some motor heating/smoke issues in my chair initially.

Thanks for the suggestions..Will definitely do some research ..My sister lives in Singapore and visiting us in 2 months so may be of help !

          • @summithunter: That's probably your best bet IMO. I found OSIM stuff is usually 30-40% cheaper. You can't get discounts unless it's a promotion but you can try to get freebies thrown in. If she lives there, she may also have the Takashimaya credit card which earns points/rebate and whilst it's only a couple of % worth, it might be enough to help make the deal a bit better for her too?

Also ask her to suss out if she needs to buy in advance as not all items are in stock and some may require a wait.

I would be looking further into what is causing it. What sort of shoes do you wear? Have you chatted to your doctor or a physio? You seem to be treating the symptoms, rather root cause analysis.

  • Physio here - as said above, please see a doctor or physio about calf pain if you haven't done so. Whenever we see someone who complains of calf pain, we need to rule out Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot in the calf) which could actually lead to a stroke/heart attack/death if massaged and dislodged. Very unlikely that you have this but just as a precaution get it checked out. Also from experience, if you have long-standing pain, massage is not going to be the fix.

  • Thanks @trytohepfull and Spacemansam for your comments.

Yes, I have .. been to several doctors and physio's and spent a lot of $$$$.. almost given up now as i am sick of repeating myself.

I am confident that Deep Vein Thrombosis was ruled out and will give it a shot again..I get pain only when i relax/ my legs are not working out for longer than 2 hours.. when in motion there is no pain .

  • That would be frustrating. Just wondering if you have tried wearing compression socks.

Best of luck with finding a solution.
