Thoughts on a Dell Laptop - Inspiron 15 5000 5570 for $720?

Hi!

It would be great to get your thoughts on a laptop selling in the Dell Outlet for around $720 to check if it is a good deal. It would be for daily use including video/photo editing and general multi-tasking. The 16gb memory seems good as well as the hard drive size. Would this be a good deal? The laptop would be mostly plugged into a larger monitor so the laptop screen/keyboard would not be used often.

Inspiron 15 5000 5570 - Price $720

The next model up availble in the Dell Outlet is for $300 more at $1050. The main differences I can see is a better processor, a different type of memory, better graphics card and backlit keyboard.

    including video/photo editing

Take display colour accuracy into consideration too. Inspiron series are 'everyday' use type laptops, some feature TN panels and are not meant for content creation. Consider the Dell XPS lineup.

    Review
    https://laptopmedia.com/review/dell-inspiron-15-5570-core-i7…

The Inspiron 5570 comes with a Full HD (1920×1080) TN panel manufactured by BOE with model number 4561N-NT15N41.
The correlated color temperature at maximum brightness is a bit colder than it should be – 7350K and shoots up to 16000K when going along the grayscale, which means that colors will appear noticeably blue-ish. You can see how these values change at 140 cd/m2 (72% brightness) in the image below.

The maximum color deviation dE2000 compared to the center of the screen should be no more than 4.0 and if you are planning to do color-sensitive work, it should be lower than 2.0.
The contrast ratio is exceptionally low – 325:1 before calibration and 290:1 after calibration.

I bought this one recently for $480 when they were having one of their regular 20% off sales.

I'm not very technically minded for computers so I can't compare the specs for you, this is just to give you the price for comparison.

    • how is your laptop that you bought?

      • I haven't used it, my wife's happy with it though. It was replacing a really old laptop so anything was better.

  • If you are doing video/photo editing the one with the graphics card and ssd would be much better.

  • That's not 16gb memory, optane is a mini ssd effectively, it's got 4gb ram, with a slot for another stick. The mx130 might lift some of the load but if you get something optimised for intel quicksync it won't matter as that's CPU not GPU intensive, and works well. powering a GPU will kill battery life. Whats wrong with ryzen/vega at this price point? doesn't TightArse have lenovo deals similar to this price but new? Vega 8 is ranked as not hugely different in most cases than low level mx130 (rebadged 920m).

    • thanks! i thought it was 16gb ram which was confusing as I had filtered for 16gb ram in the outlet. the other deals would be better if it only has 4gb ram is the case

  • I think the i5 model is $699 at JB HiFi (same specs) & the i7 model is $839 (looks like this one is 1TB HDD instead of 256GB SSD like the one you mentioned).
Disclaimer: Definitely the same processors & RAM but please double check the specs. Also limited stock in-store so call ahead.

  • I just passed on the purchase of a 5575 because of TN panel and it was better specs and cheaper than this

Yep, I read horrible things about the panel.

    • thanks! any thoughts on the performance of this laptop?

We have one and it's fine unless your a diva. Most people would be happy with the panel and for true color correction you will be using a pro grade monitor anyway. In ever other respect it is a quick and well specced machine.
