You can maybe get another $10 off if you sign up to their newsletter

  • Saw it when they started the sale a week ago, decided not to buy because it's out-of-the-box performance is shocking and it hasn't been well modded yet

Might pull trigger via amazon if SB or CR have a flash 10% or 12% sale

Just bought one from Amazon with 8% SB cashback.

    • it's out-of-the-box performance is shocking

Yes it's disappointing considering it uses the new Power Functions motors and for AFOLs who've been dreaming of Lego releasing a decently powerful PF motor for years, it's doubly disappointing, but it's still by far and away the fastest Lego RC vehicle released in a long, long time and for more casual Lego consumers, I think it's still a good buy.

      • I just found it was laughable what it would get stuck on. It doesn't have the ground clearance. Which is about the model design rather than the motor.

I'm not worried too much about speed as I don't have any expectations there. And there's the aftermarket motors you pointed out that would fix the speed issue.

It would be fun to tinker with if you had time. 8% shopback is still tempting.

          Mate. Join the chorus.

I've got the BWE, RTC, 6x6 All-Terrain Tow Truck, RC Tracked Racer and RC Stunt Racer and all of their PF features mostly suck, especially the driveable models. They all struggle to handle the gradient of a thick throw rug without getting stuck.

By comparison, the 4x4 X-Treme Off-Roader actually goes like a stabbed rat. Still very disappointing compared to BuWizz and SBrick yes, and still miles behind what Lego Technic enthusiasts really want, but an improvement nonetheless.

That being said, I'm still in no rush to build mine. Got a stack of sets I'd rather do first when I have the time.

I have this set, it has some fancy planetery geared wheel hubs exclusive to this set, however on the downside currently you will not be able to control the motors via the official app if you connect the motors in any other combination. this makes the 4th port unusable, although 2 third party mobile apps will now let you control the new technics hub: Brick Controller 2 & Buwizz.

As for getting speed, we are getting ridiculous speeds with this moc, it can drift over hardwood floors! https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-25474/MK%20Bricks/rc-racer/…

        • Yeah I haven't built mine yet, but I was no rush to given the lacklustre reviews on YouTube.

Well that's another big letdown then.

Seems the new Control + motors and Smart Hub are a case of 2 steps forward and one and a half steps backward. Though I hold out hope that the Liebherr R9800 has decent PF features that don't move in slow-motion.

Well that's using BuWizz motors, so no surprise there.
