Travel Insurance for Scandinavia - Winter Sports and Activities etc

Hi all,

Doing a big Scandinavia trip next year (Feb-March). Just explorning various of the usual places such as Finland, Sweden, Lapland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark etc. and a stop via Switzerland on the way back.

Given we are going middle of winter and hope to catch the Northern Lights we are open to the idea of the 'local' activities such as dog sledding, snow mobile, whatever else is 'unique' coming from AUstralia as you can imagine.

Probably some snowboarding too in Switzerland on our last stop unless we can find a quick and close place during the Scandinavia portion.

Is there any travel insurance provider that is a decent price that anyone can recommend we can look at that covers alot of these recreational activities? Me and the mrs are just doing theme for fun and the experience so nothing too out there… but clearly if the off chance an accident happens we didn't want to get caught out given these are typically special activities requiring coverage.

We booked using qantas points on the oneworld award flight around the world so it would be great to have a travel insurance that covers the normal medical, cancellations ,etc. in addition to these specific winter items. I'm sure many others have gone down this route so suggestions are much appreciated….

P.S. I did an ACL reconstruction a good 1.5 years ago. Back to sport now, but is there a general rule regarding pre-existing conditions? When i applied for income protection knee related items were 'excluded' as a blanket rule due to me disclosing my knee… when in reality I am 'repaired' and I would feel it is unfair if i suffered another knee accident and wasn't covered, as technically that would be a new knee injury. I just didn't want them to exclude the whole knee which would have been injured had it been a fully normal knee to begin with. Anyone with pre-existing operations care to comment if these pre-existing items have followed you for life? Or do they disappear after a yr or two as you have no lingering issues?

  • Last time I looked world nomads was good for snow sports - they covered off-piste without having to add anything. No experience with pre-existing conditions though.

    • Will be on -piste for groomed runs as we are beginners to intermediates, nothing fancy :)

  • bump? No one else with similar experiences?
