I need to buy a prepaid visa or mastercard for $500. It has to be a physical card as it will be a gift. Where can I buy one with some discount? Thanks.

Well you would need overdraft otherwise it would get declined. :)
Could order yourself a Qantas Cash (called “Money” now) Mastercard card which costs nothing to use, but Qantas Frequent Flyer membership needed. Takes about 10 days for card to arrive, and deposits to card account can take up to 24 hours, especially on weekends! The only thing is that the card will have your name, so you need the card returned afterwards … and / or change the card pin on the account so the recipient cannot use it any more.
I use one of these cards for our fortnightly shopping budget, and I think easier to let my son use mine, than giving him cash (which could be lost or some unscrupulous shop keeper shortchange him … I have seen this happen with my own eyes and complained!). Only downsides with this card is you cannot withdraw cash from it, cannot pay for parking (why I have no idea but it just will not work) and no gambling purchases (not necessarily a bad thing hey).
There is an app you can follow purchases, deposits with. When credits are available they do send you an email.
Surely it's easier to just pay a few bucks for a Prepaid Visa/Mastercard?

If there was everyone on here would be using it, no thing as discounted (cost less than value) prepaid cards. Other than Woolies and we all know how that is now
