Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

Looking to replace my ageing Victa Sabre 4 stroke lawn mower with an electric cordless one.

Narrowed it down to the following in the order of preference:

  • Ego 56V 47cm self-propelled mower $899
  • AEG 58V 18" brushless $849
  • Victa 82V 18" $584

Firstly, I can't seem to find any sort of deals on any of these at the moment.
Anyone seen any deals on one of these by any chance?

    • Thanks for that. I guess I could price match at Bunnings and get additional 10% off.

The Victa was my least preferred option but might be ok for that price ;-)

      • Go for Victa. I owned the Kobalt mower purchased when Masters went in to liquidation. Till today it's still working well. I believe Kobalt is rebadged to Victa.

  • +1

How much lawn are you doing? My 36v ryobi will do around 300m2 of lawn (block is 800m2) on a 5ah battery at a lot less cost than those listed. It does use an extra 2.6ah battery if the grass is a bit long though.

    • Probably similar size lawn as yours front and back.
Did try pushing around the Ryobi and while it's light, it just felt too flimsy for my liking.
Also read that Ryobi batteries take a long time to charge and requires the battery to cool before it will start charging because there is no fan on the charger.
Don't mind paying a bit extra for additional comfort and features to be honest

Fair enough. I just see too many people going for the biggest most powerful when they don’t really need it. I’d see no point in getting a powerful mower and spending twice as much for a lawn half the size of mine.

I guess if I hadn’t picked up mine second hand for cheap I’d have gone for a more robust model with a bit more power, it does struggle a bit if I’ve been slack getting around to the mowing and the grass is long in places.

        • Yep, if there was some smacking deal on a cheaper one, I would consider it but I tend to try and get something once and pay a bit more. Been burnt before trying to save money and end up paying more in the end when it comes to tools :-)

  • I bought the Ego and I like it lots. Quiet and effective. I'd buy one again.

    • which model?
Ego is the one that I like the most based on my research so far but also the priciest.
Warranty may be more difficult to claim compared to buying one from Bunnings too.

      • I got the Ego LM2001 52cm. I recall reading this review and being impressed:
        https://toolguyd.com/ego-56v-cordless-lawn-mower-review/

I know what you mean about the warranty. I got mine from Masters, if that helps, using a discount voucher from Groupon. It even has headlights so I can mow at night.

  • I've got the Victa and like it. Would happily have purchased the ego as well, purely from reputation.

  • Ego. They're reputation and brand is built around cordless outdoor power equipment.

  • Don’t forget to consider a matching line trimmer to use the same battery system. Even if you don’t need/want one yet, you don’t want to end up with a different battery for just the trimmer as the battery is the most expensive part.

  • Ended up scoring an absolute bargain at total tools. They had one LM2021E 50cm steel deck model with 5ah battery and brushless motor marked down from 949 to 547. Ego also has a promotion running so i should be able to claim a free 2.5ah battery worth $199.

    • Hi DJ, that seems like a great deal.
May I ask which store you nabbed it from?
Plus any chance of pic of the receipt?
      Cheers.

      • Hi, This was from East Brisbane store.

This is a one-off clearance on that particular stock and I doubt they'll repeat it.

They had just this one with price marked down.

        • Cheers DJ. All good, I did ring around just in case, but as you say, none left in stores in VIC anyway.

    • Hey mate, any update on the Ego? I'm looking to get the same one. How's the run time and does it stall through thick grass? Best I can find is $800.
