Need to Buy an iPad for Kid (School Requirement) - Help Me Find a Deal

Kid will be in year 4 in 2020. School has asked us to get an iPad for studies.
Help me find a good deal pls…

Requirements:

  1. Must be iPad Air, Air 2, Air 3 or 5th Gen or over (no Air Pro or iPad mini)
  2. Must be IOS (not Android)
  3. Min 32GB memory

So far, found iPad 6th Gen 128GB which suits the requirements and the pocket best (not keen to get a used one)

Any suggestions/recommendations/deals (I am in VIC)?

Thanks heaps

  • 7th gen is nearly here, so there maybe price drops on gen 6 shortly.

    • I was hoping the same. But the 6th Gen iPad, 128GB was for $537 until 30th Sep (the day 7th Gen launched). Since yesterday, its now at $589 (officeworks).

Take the Umart price of $549 to OW and get the price beat => $549 x 5% off = $521.55

        • Thats the lowest I have seen. Should I pull the trigger or wait for a Myer ebay 20% sale / Black Friday. Don't need it until mid November.

          • @RM: I remember Myer had stopped listing iPads in their 20% off sale. Not sure if it's still true.

  • I am a technical man. And along the way, I replaced the screen of my boy's iPad - TWICE!!

Definitely invest in a heavy duty protection case!!! A must! Particularly for kids with butter fingers.

Since the use of the case, don't need to replace the screen …… but just a few dents and cracks of the case!! LOL

    • Thank you mate, yes definitely have that in the plan. Have always done it for all devices. She's been using an android tab for 4 years and that case is such a blessing…

If it is not required till next year, I'd be holding out till January waiting to see if there is a Cashback deal on a retailer or an Amex offer. No rush to get it straight away.

Get Officeworks to price match an iPad from TobyDealsAu. The cheapest I've found.

  • If you're not in a rush, the Apple refurb store sells 32GB 5th generation for $339.

Use one of the several Apple store stock trackers/alert sites, as you might have to wait a while for them to be in stock.

Bought one for the grandparents earlier this year, it looks brand new, except the box has refurbished printed on it. Perfect unless there's a later need for pencil support.

Off topic, but grade 4? Didn’t Steve Jobs stop his kids from using devices so they wouldn’t get addicted?

yep its bullshit. i have to do same with my daughter for year 4 next year to
completely unnecessary fpr kids so young especially when its stupid shit like moving graphics around for maths
I have a friend who is a teacher and she has had them in her class this year as is against it. Says after they use tablets she has to redo it all as they dont retain information for what what they are doing as well when using tablets
