How do you find out if a brewery is independent?

      Hawkers is Lebanese.

Hawkers Beer is an independently owned brewery based in Melbourne. Its co-founder and CEO is from Lebanon, but I think even he would say the brewery is proudly Australian.

The owner is from Lebanon. He only moved to Melbourne to open the brewery.

@jv: "The owner is from Lebanon."

Yes. I acknowledged that in my original post.

The business is registered in Australia, based in Australia and pays tax in Australia.
The brewery has won numerous awards in competitions where only Australian beers may be entered.
It was formerly a member of the IBA. An association for independent Australian breweries.

Is there a reason sir, that you won't concede this brewery is Australian?
