Wired Earbuds for Making Calls

Hi

I'm looking for some recommendations for a decent pair of Wired Earbuds that I can use making phone calls and listening to music.

The plan is to keep a pair everywhere I'd want to make a call:

1 at work
1 at home office
1 in backpack
etc…

Essential features are:
* 3.5mm headphone jack
* microphone
* button for play/pause
* (ideally) buttons for volume control that work on Android
* (preference) NOT in-ear earphones

Yes I know this is a pretty standard inclusion with most phones but I'm hoping to buy a few of the same model for a consistent experience. Hopefully we can find a good value mass produced earbud.

If you've ever purchased a basic pair of earbuds please let me know how they've gone for you :)

  • Can't go wrong with Sony, though I am using bluetooth WIC310???
    Sennheiser or JBL are also excellent.

      Yep, I've been using these for over 2 years

      Very good, just make sure you use the correct tips for good seal otherwise bass with be lacking.

      • OP said no in-ear earphones preferably, which is what these are …

        • Sorry, I missed that. I have some Marshall headphones that are great. Both BT and 3.5mm, plus a microphone. I don't think it has a play/skip button though.

        • OP said Preference to be exact…

  • +3

    apple earpods are pretty perfect for your requirements. you can probably get a spare pair off someone to try out, and you can buy them online somewhere for cheap. can't remember where but I'm sure I got a set off ebay or something for under $20 that were legit. plenty of fakes around though. the buttons may be an issue, but i used them with androids for years, i think they mostly worked

    not saying this as an apple boy either. i had spent way more on much better pairs and avoided earpods.
    but being comfortable and not in-ears meant they were good for work, and eventually became my main pair. sounds not too bad either. cant stand in-ears now

    alternatively you could look at something like VE Monk. theyre $5, people rave about the sound, but I don't think they have a mic. I didnt like the fit much, personally.

    • I'll have to give the apple earbuds another try. From memory the button worked but the volume rocker doesn't (but this is from 1y+ ago, maybe Android has patched it).

      • I think iphones and androids are wired differently for volume but the button to play/pause/answer calls still works

  • there are some philips earbuds that have mics on them, the numbers usually end with 5 eg.she1405, usually means a microphone attached

    other than that, you can search for earbuds with microphones on this forum thread
