Trust DNS -- Free App for Accessing Blocked Websites, & Browsing Privately via Anonymous DNS Resolver

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Hey all. We from Surfshark would like to introduce our newest product which is completely FREE — Trust DNS. It is an app that helps bypass censorship, access blocked websites, & browse privately via anonymous DNS resolver. Can't access Youtube, Telegram, Facebook or Wikipedia while traveling? Maybe your ISP doesn't want you to visit certain things? Well, now you can.

Yes, it is completely free. No ads, no logs, no registration required.

When tech giants began to thrive on data-driven marketing, the concept of online privacy became the essence of internet reality. Sadly, many people cannot afford premium protection software. Instead, they choose free solutions that in most cases are more dangerous than none. Having that in mind, we've created Trust DNS to grant a basic level of protection for everyone as an embodiment of our company values.

Don't get us wrong: this is not a VPN and it will not provide the same set of features that Surfshark VPN provides. It will not encrypt your traffic for example.

However, not everyone can afford one and Trust DNS provides basic functionality for bypassing censorship in authoritarian regimes and keeping some privacy for yourself (hiding your logs and data from your DNS provider). Our core no-log policy applies here too.

At this time, there's an Android app, but we are hoping to expand in the future.

So if you have an Android device, be sure to check it out. At least for that Lighthouse design, it is really cute.

Anyone can confirm this works in China?

  • Sounds too good to be true. I can't find any complaints, just a lot of highly rated reviews.

    • Why? It’s a dns server. Nothing special. Google, cloud flare and hundreds of others offer one for free.

  • Suggest that you offer apk download for those authoritarian regimes where Google Play is banned lol

  • Only android?

    • Yes for now, but we are hoping to expand in the future.

  • Nothing is truly free

What is the difference between this and CloudFlare's 1.1.1.1 service?

    • Yeh, or Quad9, Google, etc…

      • Google?
        Nah.

  • Only useful if you traveling to North korea or China.

    • Apparently Google is not blocked in North Korea

      • Remind me of the single star in North Korea Shows on steam map.

    • Actually useful in Oz, as the feds demand ISPs use DNS to block certain ip.addresses, related to websites…alas often IP addresses are shared, thus blocking legit sites.

But as others have said, there are plenty of other more highly respected orgs offering similar services for free. CloudFlare are starting a encrypted DNS service so there's no snooping.

      My issue are
      1) it all costs money to host these things, so who pays for it & what do they want in return? (Are your dns searches sold?)
2).how secure is it and do they sell "not found" dns redirects
      3) where are the DNS servers and what are the ping times (this is a big one as everytime you goto a website it can do 10-100 dns lookups, if it's based OS, it can/does increase webpage loading times 10+ fold.

    Hi SurfShark,

Just confirming that no connection data or metadata is stored, forwarded, replicated, mirrored, sniffed or analysed either by your own infrastructure or a third party?

I’m interested to know besides possibly putting marketing in your app what the real value is in offering something for free?

  • DNS servers aren’t a bargain. Many other free (more well known) options. This is just advertising.

  • Wanted to try it on Vodafone TV running Android 7.1.1 and Google Play says "Not compatible with your device".

Just change the DNS server in the networking settings. You don't need an app!
