Is It Legal to Park Here?

After Big Man Tyrone's announcement Ozb is now the leading traffic infringement info website, I have a question to propose to you. Is it legal/illegal to park in between the white car/van. I am asking not if while they are there but if you park in the middle, that would potentially block the slope to the ped/bike way. This is in QLD and the rules are here https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/fines/parking. The most relevant section I can find is:

Park or stop on a road in a way that blocks access to a path or driveway unless:

  • you drive a bus and are dropping off or picking up passengers
  • you are dropping off or picking up passengers within 2 minutes of stopping
  • you park in a parking bay
  • you do not leave the vehicle unattended.

It is blocking the ramp, but not access as people can still go around on the grass. Not sure if that would hold up though. I think it would not be legal, what do you say?

  • I think not legal. I also don't understand why they are parking perpendicular to the curb.
You say people can go around on the grass, would that be realistic for someone in a wheelchair for example?

Blocking the ramp is blocking access.

I’d guess that you can’t park 90 degree to the kerb as they are as well, but if it is a quiet street the parking police don’t really care.

All of the vehicles are park unlawfully.

    • I can see the face of the guy 'mowing' his driveway. I thought Google blurred faces out?

      • Ah that guy outside the complex. I was trying to figure out where all these cars were from on a street that only has 7 or so house numbers.

Lol @ the maintenance service ute. 120% illegal.

The rest should be 100% illegal but it seems like a fairly good idea otherwise to park like that to maximise space. Shows they are somewhat considerate!

I guess you or your friend is at number 6. I can see why you'd dislike this but if they didn't park like that I'd say most of those vehicles can still fit around the end of this culdesac so not a lot you can do about it. I doubt the council will put up a no parking sign there.

        • No I live in the complex and it is logical what is happening, if they didn't they all wouldn't fit in the street. Just recently someone has gone to the trouble of writing in chalk to not park down there so bicycles can get through. If they can't park there the street would be clogged with cars parking either side and you wouldn't get through.

          • @knobbs: Oh I take that back then. Maybe if the cyclists do make enough noise the council might put up a no parking in that particular spot (so can still park left and might right of it) for them to get through. I completely missed the ramp before without zooming in…

Wow that street looks sooo narrow maybe it's just google maps but it doesn't even look like you can get through without single flow of traffic.

Unfortunately that's what happens when you cram a bunch of residence in a dense space on a small street I can feel for all involved it's not ideal there's no winnable outcome here.

Even if you complain there's not enough parking to council it'll probably fall on deaf ears they'll eventually just likely revenue raise and enforce the rules. Probably argue your lack of parking is not their problem.

Imagine this issue getting worse as cars get bigger and bigger, especially with the popularity of SUVs and large utes.

    • i see that as fine but other two car at end of street do my head in why not park just over the road.

No vehicle in that photo on street view is parked legally. None are parked in the direction of travel or parallel. This get's done heaps in NSW. Plus the work ute is parked on a Footpath/Nature strip.

  • Now you've let the Sunshine Coast Council know, they'll be there first thing Monday fining those people :-(

    • I wish council people were that proactive. It takes at least 2 weeks for them to come out and do the initial inspection. But I don’t live on the SC, maybe they are competent.

PS: Blocking the access ramp is also a no-no.

  • Not legal to park in that fashion, but provides best use of space, even the small dark colored car parking further up by itself is illegally parked. Welk addy last in the state i live in
This is because 2 wheels are on the nature strip, all 4 must be on the road.

  • This street is line with cars at is full of uni house with 6 bed room 6 cars https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-19.3255629,146.7480538,3a,7…
