Parasailing near Sydney?

I'm from Sydney and want to do parasailing.

I've been to Port Stephens Parasailing a few years ago, but their boat has been broken for more than an year now. Their website is also no longer operational.

Another one I found through google is at Manly, but that seems to be permanently closed too.

Any idea what's wrong with all the parasailing companies around Sydney?
Does anyone know where I can parasail? Happy to drive 2-3hrs from Sydney.

Thanks.

  • Why on earth would you want to do this? It's one of the most lame activities you can do. It's basically exactly the same sensation as going on a chair lift.

    • Ok, can you suggest something else? I can't swim. Have done jet skiing recently in Gold Coast. Doing go karting today. Planning to sky dive later this summer. What other similar activity would you recommend?

    • Bollocks. I parasailed in Mauritius and it was great fun. For a start it gives you a view that you won’t get otherwise. Funnily enough there aren’t a lot of chairlifts in the middle of the bay. My take on the lack of parasailing is that the insurance companies refuse to cover them at any reasonable price. They winch people into the air on ropes and drag them behind a speeding boat, I can’t see why that might be a risk :).

BTW, OP, I would make the swimming a higher priority. You need to learn how to swim, float and tread water. If you go out on a boat, or even go to the beach, you need to be able to get out of trouble.

Learn how to swim. It's absolutely stupid that you even considered going parasailing without the ability to swim.

    • FYI parasailing and jet skiing don't require swimming. I have done them both. They provide life jackets and have it documented that knowing swimming to do these activities is not essential. The only "stupid" thing I see here is your comments are completely irrelevant to the question.

You live in Australia. You need to know how to swim. Seriously.

        • I completely agree and that's why it's in my todo list for this summer. But that's not relevant to what I asked in my original post!

@AssassinForever: It's more than relevant. It's stupid to go jet skiing or parasailing without the ability to swim, regardless of if you are wearing a lifevest or not.

I think the OP should go to Bondi when they are filming Bondi Rescue and go swimming at the southern end of the beach. Ideally he shouldn't be German, Korean or Indian as the show needs some racial diversification.

          OP
There was a Parasailing sales/rental shop at Ramsgate on the Grand Parade and i think there's a guy that sets up at Kurnell. I haven't been down that way for a few years so maybe they have gone.

          @Burnertoasty

NO you DO NOT. You're lying.

  • If nothing nearby, thought about paragliding, stanwell tops. Never done it but always see them flying off the top of the mountain, seems more of an adrenaline rush.

  • OP, if you like Parasailing and have tried it, don't listen to the couch potatoes on here.
