Would You Go with Bingle?

Car insurance renewal time. I've been with AAMI for a couple of years - always been pretty happy with them. I've been through a claims process and it was extremely easy.

But I usually do a bit of a search anyway to see if I can find better prices.

This year, AAMI's price is $560 whilst Bingle is $381.

The reviews about Bingle on the net are terrible, but they're insurance companies - most reviews are unreliable. Even AAMI themselves have terrible reviews online. It's either positive experiences of people talking about how low the premiums are or negative experiences of people burnt through a claims process.

Anyway, I know Bingle is some sort of online only company. Not sure what that means - probably means it won't be as easy as AAMI when making a claim. But for nearly $200, would you give Bingle a go?

Note - I also like the fact AAMI specifies exactly what my car is covered for whereas Bingle just says "Market Value" - whatever that means - sounds like something they can just make up…

I've been with Bingle in the past. Even made an at fault claim when I had a minor prang with another car. No issues.

Wouldn't hesitate to go wirh them again if they were the cheapest for me again.

    • thanks that's good to know the claims process was fine. So instead of ringing them, it was just submit something on their website? Did you speak to anyone though the whole process?

Maybe cause my car is older (2014) - didn't get the agreed value.

      • My accident was back in 2011 so I can't remember if I called them also, but I submitted it online. They do have a 1300 number.

Maybe they stopped doing agreed value or I'm mixing it up with another insurer?

Same here with Bingle for past 4 years. Only difference is even if you are not at fault you need to pay excess upfront. Once the claim is processed they will reimburse you.

Also you can get rental car option at reasonable price.

AAMI specifies exactly what my car is covered for whereas Bingle just says "Market Value"

Check these amounts carefully - insurers often allow you to choose between "Agreed Value" and "Market Value". If you choose to insure an Agreed Value that's higher than the Market Value they would otherwise give you, then the premiums would obviously be higher.

If you have a loan or anything, you'd want to make sure the insured value is equal to or higher than the amount you owe. Even if it don't have a loan, you'd want to insure enough to get a vehicle in a similar condition to your current one. "Market Value" doesn't necessary take into account the low kms or good condition that your car might be in.

Cheapest insurance isn't always the best.

    Qantas / Jetstar = AAMI / Bingle

"You get a seat" = "Here's some duct tape*, tape yourself to the wing or we'll charge you a fee for trespassing." *Duct tape that works costs extra. :P

I've been with them and made 2 claims. One at fault and one not at fault. No issues. They were great. They use the same company for repairs as AAMI.

Both AAMI and Bingle are brands of the Suncorp Group (AAI Limited), yes they will have different features within the policy but generally speaking you'll be talking to the same person when you lodge a claim regardless of which brand you're with.

  • Are you a bad driver and plan on claiming? Might make a difference. I have been driving since last century and had 3 incidents that required insurance intervention. One at fault. Let’s say a claim every 7-ish years. Would it be worth it then? I’d say a little more hassle to save $1400x3 might be worth it. If it’s a claim every couple of years that equation changes - a lot.

    I don't really want a bingle.

  • I use bingle. Have done for years. Our car got wrote off last year in a hail storm. No agreed price, it was just on market price. Very easy to deal with.I had to pay excess up front when making the claim but money from the car being wrote off was in our account in 48 hours. Easy to deal with as its all online and I still use them for our cars.

  • Been with bingle for the last 2 years and made a claim few months back. Will recommend them since the process was easy and there was no dramas with hire car or repairs.
