Any recommendations for wifi enabled door opening/left open detection?

Can anyone recommended a good bang for buck system for monitoring open doors and windows?

Specifically, I want something that works with wifi and will push an app notification if a garage door opens or is left open for a certain time.

The garage is 30m from the home router, so something with a bit of oomph would be nice.

Cheers!

  • If you're into tinkering, any home automation system coupled with a simple reed switch? Something like a raspberry pi setup could suffice.

    • A little time poor for tinkering. Thanks for the idea but would prefer a plug and play setup..

I have ordered from Amazon Aus:
    Supplied by: XProject6666

TOOGOO WiFi Switch Garage Door Controller for Car Garage Door Opener APP Remote Control Timing

Others have ordered and commented that it works well.

It may not do everything you want but from what i can tell, does show door state.

    • Looks great but I am really after a 'left open' alarm..

The Toogoo included a magnetic sensor to sense if the door is opened or not. Would assume you could program alexa to close it if left open more than X minutes.

  • Have a look at the iSmartGate Pro. I can do garage doors and I'm pretty sure it supports reed switches if you want to monitor door's or windows. This is from the same company that makes the Gogogate and they are pretty popular. There's some threads on Whirlpool for the Gogogate.

    • Looks good but pricey. Don't need a lot of the open shut functions, I'm really after the alarm…

Mirabella Genio has a window/door sensor that uses push notifications, KMart..

Monitor your doors and windows with the help of this Mirabella Genio Wi-Fi sensor that uses smart technology.

Door and window sensor, Open/close push notifications Works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa Requires 2 x AAA batteries (included)Setup:

    • +1. Genio is a stand alone (no hub required) and works with Smat Life app.

      • Thanks guys. Happy to be corrected but I don’t think it pushes a ‘left open’ notification..

    • Awesome. Will pick some up tomorrow.

  • Consider the Xiaomi gatewaty paired with the door sensors.

    • Yeah I have had a squiz, might be the way to go

  • You would have to get a bit of extra kit but Control4 allows you to do this. They do home automation. https://www.control4.com/

    • Looks super pricey..

      • It's a good system. You can find used kits online. Definitely a better option when building a house from scratch and adding it as part of the build process. Really good integrations.

Edit: Have you thought about a cheap chinese brand with basic alerts? Have a look at Kerui. They have iphone/android apps and you can essentially do what you want with one PIR sensor in a room which detects movement.

  • I'm running the gogogate2. sends me an email everytime the door opens and closes. emails me notifying that the door is still open too (which comes in handy). I've called the missus up from work and ask why she's not closing the door (she didnt even know it was open!)
with IFFT I guess you could even make it so the door opens when you're approaching the house

The really handy thing is - I can check if the door is open or closed and open/close it via the app

    • Looks great, although the price tag is definitely up there.

Do you remember what you paid?
