NAS Storage Questions - Want to Get Started

I'm new to the whole Network Attached Storage situation and was wondering a couple of things:

Do I need to get NAS type HDDs or will any type do?
What sort of hardware do I need to get started? I've seen enclosures for about the same cost as a single 4TB drive but are these required?

Cheers for any help!!!

why exactly to you feel you need a nas first?

    • OP need to backup the internet ;)

  • Did you find the information presented in numerous existing guides, FAQs and discussions on the World Wide Web deficient, or did you just cannot be bothered with the effort of research on a lazy Saturday afternoon and decided that other OzBargainers should waste their leisure time doing it for you?

That took all of 10 seconds to GOOGLE.

  • What you want to do with the NAS, other than just dumping files on it? How important are the files? Redundancy, capacity.

First start, simple WD MyCloud that you just plug into an available port in your router and you're ready to go.

    • Seconded. Take into account how often do you want to backup your files as well.
