Is this a deal or just advertising?

I was looking at the deal on today's Daily Escape (http://www.dailyescape.com.au/national-deal/) which offers "$240 for a 3 night stay in a One Bedroom Apartment at Kupari Boutique Apartments - Surfers Paradise". The part I found interesting is that there are only five deals available so there's a very limited supply.

Firstly, kudos to Daily Escape for having a limited number (avoiding the risk that other group deals have created with overbooking accommodation), and for stating how limited (which helps me as a potential consumer work out how much time I have to react).

However, when the apartment complex offers only the equivalent of one deal per month (availability: 20/07/11 - 22/12/11), it seems more about advertising than offering a genuine deal. I know these sites offer exposure for businesses (there are several places I have heard about through group deals that I would otherwise not have heard of) but I think Kupari apartments could have been slightly more generous than a miserly five deals. To me, this just seems like an advertisement and not really entering into the spirit of a group deal.

  • Looks like its a deal to me, all deals are advertising.

  • +1

I would prefer fewer buyers to compete for availability with.

  • None bought! It's a bit weird for a group deal since for these 5 (or more) is usually a minimum rather than a maximum number.

If it's cheap it's a deal - it can also be advertising in the same way that loss leaders or "door busters" are deals but also advertising. You just can't post it as a deal because there aren't enough available for all the Ozbargainers :P
