Logitech remote

Have seen awesome Logitech shop sales from time to time, but unfortunately nothing now that im in the market for a new universal remote.

Tired of juggling three remotes. Mainly need functionality for TV, Foxtel, HTIB.

I like cool gadgets and wouldn’t mind paying extra for touch screen just to show off :)

Just wondering what you all recommend and if you have seen any awesome deals on currently?

  • If you have a STB or want to use it with Foxtel, make sure you look for one with the STB buttons (actual red, blue, green, yellow buttons). LogitechShop has the best AU prices I have seen (although you may get DSE or HN to price match). Just be warned, can take some time to configure - but definitely worth it.

I have an old Logitech Harmony (forget the model) and would love to get a Logitech 900. But can't justify the price. Wish LTS would have a sale on them.

Interesting, visiting LTS they have dropped a couple of models (cheaper and top ends) off their site. I wonder if it means they're out of stock or maybe it's about time for a model refresh. Would explain why there are so many low-end Harmony sale deals these days.

  • Bought the 700 (rechargable version of the 650) with PS3 control for about $110 a couple of months ago and
    Well worth it IMHO…
Use it for Foxtel, HTIB, PS3, and TV (obviously)
The configuration doesnt take all that long for the basic functions, but if you want to take some time, it is amazing the control you can set up.

    • Does it support command sequencing?

  • you know your Foxtel remote has some crude universal functionality ?

i use mine to turn on/off tv and volume on amp - that's about 90% of what I'd use a universal remote for anyway.

    • Don't have Foxtel.

      • I think battler was referring to the OP, whom specifically mentioned Foxtel.

  • logitechshop have remotes at discounted prices every second week - you won't have to wait long.

    • thanks mate. As I said, I will only use remote to control Vivo (Dick Smith brand)LCD TV, Foxtel and my Home Theatre system (Philips HTS9800W includes DVD player within it). Do you think it'll work all these well?

      • The logitech/harmony website has a 'Is my equipment supported' section. Note down your model numbers and type them in.

  • Tips for myself, in case I have to do this again later and in case it helps anyone else.

Re: Notes on Programming Logitech Harmony 650 Remote

Default set up did not work with a Windows 7 machine.
Install software from website, plug in remote -> no recognition
Unplug USB from computer and remote and plug both back in -> no recognition
Reboot computer, go to website, plug in remote -> no recognition

However with Windows XP, doing the following worked:
    1) visit site, register, download software, install software
    2) reboot computer
    3) return to site, wait till it says connect remote, put batteries in remote at that stage, when remote says connect to website then plug in usb cable to computer and remote

Also note, something was wrong with the input settings, for the Sony tv
HDMI 1 got AV or Component 2
    HDMI 2 got HDMI 1
