ALDI Coffee - New Single Origin Any Good?

Went in to get the Brazilian single origin coffee… And they are discontinued!

Brazilian tasting notes were smooth chocolate. The new Honduras and Colombian list the tasting notes as citrus and grapefruit!

Who's tried them and are they any good?

Also, Ive never tried the standard Melbourne roasted beans. Don't suppose they are anything like the Brazilian?

  • I use the standard dark roast beans all the time. Not as good as other beans but good enough for my morning brew and significantly cheaper. I bought the citrus single origin one - it was OK but I prefer the standard beans.

    • I think the dark would be too intense for me. The Brazillian beans were up with the best beans i've tried.

  • The Victoria coffee bean sold at Coles is much better than the one at Aldi, normal price is $36/Kilo, but sometimes on sale at $18/kilo

Do you mean Vittoria? They used to be good, but found them rubbish lately. I sent some back and Vittoria tested them and said they were stale. They sent me a replacement that came pre ground… they were super stale.

  • Lavazza ORO
    Vittoria ORO

maybe theres another ORO i dunno but they seem to be good

    • XXXX ORO?

    • Don’t say it loud, let the hipsters spend hundreds for their single origin, organic, sustainable, fair trade, gluten free, palm oil free coffee

  • I didn't like their single origin. Dark roast for me

The standard Medium roasted beans from Aldi are probably my favourite of any beans I've tried. Otherwise for Dark roast, I don't mind the new Coles brand ones (Urban Coffee Culture I think it's called) - $12/kg.

    • +1 to the Urban beans from Coles - I think they took a leaf out of Aldi's book. They're genuinely great for such a cheap cost

      • Definitely. Even without the cost factor they're really good IMO, I'll happily buy them again.

      • The medium roast? Or dark roast Coles/ Urban?

        • The Coles/Urban dark roast ones.

          • @MitchyD1989: Okee dokes, I grabbed the medium roast and will report back.

          • @MitchyD1989: Ok, I can now officially report the Coles brand Medium roast isn't great at all. Give it a miss.

            • @tunzafun001: Thanks for the update. Didn't know Coles had a medium roast of their own, I've only seen/tried dark roast, which I enjoyed. Aldi's medium roast is still my pick so far though; still have yet to try any others from Aldi or Coles that come close.

              • @MitchyD1989: Yeah, the Coles medium roast is nothing on Aldi beans. Heard good things about the Coles Dark though. Still got Chantico beans left over from the promo, tastes like burnt Vegemite (think something went wrong there) so the Coles beans are at least better than that. Been mixing the two beans together to get through them.

  • I buy the Lazzio Medium Roast beans and I am super satisfied :)

  • I only buy 250g bags of beans at a time so I stopped buying Aldi beans when they discontinued the 250g bags of the Just Organic beans. Curse you Aldi and your discontinued products!

As above, I now buy the Urban Coffee Culture beans from Coles - $5 for 250g. Taste pretty good to me.

    • I've always suspected Coles were sourcing their home brand beans from the same place as Aldi.

The Peru one is really nice

  • Would also like to know how the new Honduras bag goes. I caved in and went back to Columbia because I remember it tasting great last time it was available

  • Just saw Coles now sell Single origin Brazillian coffee in their home brandish label. Hope its the same as the Aldi version.

    • Cool, I'll have to grab a pack and try it out, I enjoyed the Aldi one. Also, got the Honduras from Aldi the other day, not too bad. Not the best though.

      • It says 'citrus notes' on the Hondura's, not what I would really want in my coffee.

      • Any news on the Coles single origin?

        • Forgot all about this lol, sorry. Still haven't tried any of the Coles single origin stuff yet.

        • Been searching for Aldi coffee reviews & found this old post. What are you buying these days?

@WatchNerd: The Brazilian is back in season. Wasn't as good last year as the previous year. Yet to try it this year. They also have a new Nicaraguan I need to try.

Tried the Aldi dark/ medium blend. I'd say average, ok at best.

Currenty using the Grinders Beans that were going out for around $18 / kg. Its reasonably smooth.

The Harris beans for around $15/ kg are pretty good.

Also tried the new Lavazza barista espresso range ….the Gran Crema is terrible. The strong is better, but has real strong 'tobacco' notes. So avoid them.
