Sony XAV-AX3000 Car Play Android Auto USB AV Tuner $349 @ Repco (Auto Club Members)

150

Was looking for a headunit that supports android auto and came across this one. Looks like a good price with auto club members getting the price down to $349.

Update. Maybe wait until weekend to get 30% off that would take the price down even further. Thanks

Helps to put brand and model in the title. Or the body. Anywhere really.

Bought it for $300 few weeks back

    • me too, but I'm yet to put it in my car. I put an ad up on Airtasker but didn't get any solid bites.

Resistive screen… yuck. Capacitive or nothing for me!

    • +4

You'd think so until you actually use one in a car.

      • Yup. Pain trying to use a capacitive screen on a bumpy road!

    • Try using it - the screen on this model is great.

    • I know what you mean. I have a wireless carplay kenwood unit with a capacitive screen. It would be hard to settle for resistive.
That said they are more than twice as expensive. I think it would be hard to go wrong at around the $300 mark with this Sony unit. And TBH I am not sure the wireless feature is worth it for longer trips, too much battery drain (fantastic for short trips).
Maybe this is the choice for the other car for the year before we update it.

    • Wow. That was a good deal.

How much you normally pay for installation?

    • +1

And where do you get it installed?

      • +9

        In the car..

    • Depends on a few things, e.g. do you need a new fascia, do you want to retain the use of steering wheel controls. I got a quote from Autobarn to install a Clarion in my Pajero and it came to almost $600, I decided to DIY and the parts came to $180. The install was not very difficult, the only complication was the park brake wire was mislabeled on the harness. Have a look at this site https://aerpro.com/ this will give you an idea of the bits and pieces you'll need to install into your car, then search for the parts in eBay and you have an idea what a DIY job will cost, if you don't want to diy factor in a couple hours labour.

  • Any way to tell if it fits my car or need any wires adapters?

  • Generally I see comments saying if you're going for the 3000 over the 1000, you might as well get the 5000 for the much better screen

  • Wireless connectivity for car play or android auto?

    • Wired only.

Having said this I've used wireless before and it's not a great experience unless you have wireless charging too. Drains the battery like there's no tomorrow, so you need to plug it in pretty quickly anyway.

      • Wireless carplay is fantastic for shorter runs. Just jump in the car at it just works. So 20 minute trip no worries
For longer trips you would need to charge.
I have an old iPhone 7 with a cactus battery (80% capacity) and it uses about 15% per half hour on wireless carplay. Mrs Entropy’s XS Max only about 5%.

      • argh in that case the unit should support atleast two 2 usb ports…

  • How do I become a club member? I don't have insurance with any of their companies or is there a way to join their Repco club thing?
