Are Any of The Cheap True Wireless Earbuds Reliable Medium/Long Term for The Gym?

Hi Forum,

Looking for some true wireless earbuds for the gym/general use. Would be nice if they could make acceptable quality calls, and drown out the gym noise.

Boss has some of the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 3100, but I know these are open so won't be as isolating as some might (probably similar to my old backbeat fit which were great but I want to go wire free and ideally more isolating).

Does anyone use any of the myriad true wireless earbuds for general use/gym use and find them reliable/battery life doesn't degrade in a month/don't drop out and loud enough for gym background noise? If so wheres the best place to buy?

Happy to buy the Fit 3100's if there's nothing better but hey, if I can get better for less, well, that's Ozbargain!

Thanks

  • I use BlueAnt's Pump Air. They do drown out most noise if pushed in all the way but they slip out a bit for me (perhaps I should change the size of the bud). They have a battery life of around 3-4 hours. Currently $129 at JB HI-FI

  • Mate just get a Soundpeats earbuds for under $40.

    • Thanks Ryanek. rather than the clicky buttons for pressing further into ears, are the haylou gt1 (touch button) similar to the soundpeats/qcy clones?

  • Been using Mpwow Flame from eBay for over a year now. Costed around $25. Really good sound quality, ear fitment and battery life. Have a ear hook so they don't fall out!

    • The flames have wires behind the neck? looking for as wirefree as possible. but thanks!

      • Yes unfortunately. No worries :)

  • I’ve used Meizu ep51, hailou headphones, Xiaomi air dots, and now AirPods at the gym. AirPods and EP51’s would be my choice.

    • How were the haylou (GT1?). The airpods don't quite meet 'budget' (at least, not for my use!) :)

      • Yeah GT1. I bought little memory foam tips to get a better in ear as the little silicone ones weren’t working for me. They are decent, battery life is good but there’s an annoying bug where only one would connect randomly. If you do a reset of them, it fixes the issue for a while but then it happens again. After 2-3 resets, I sold them because it was bugging me

        • that'd totally annoy me! how long between the bug did they work for?

    • -1

Do any of these headphones compare to the sound quality provided by the AirPods?

      • No, but they're hopefully not 5x worse for 1/5 the cost. Plus I use android so the equivalent would be the galaxy earbuds I guess over the airpods? again, talking $150+ rather than $30-40 ish

        • Oh man, I had the Galaxy Buds but returned them the second I heard them. They're incredibly flat sounding, have ZERO bass or any sort of punch in the audio. It sounded like a pair of earbuds that you'd get from The Reject Shop for $5. There was no difference, to me. But damn haha. I couldn't understand how there were so many positive reviews about them online. I bought them based on that. I know sound is objective and personal - a million people against 1 (me) should tell me I'm wrong, but I'm still not convinced lol.

      • The meizu provided pretty good sound because the buds really fit my ears well

  • Argh, now I've just read that Plantronics are solving the connection/isolation problem by bring out 320 series this month! Might get the soundpeats/Qcy or haylous to tide me over a few months until they're on offer, for $40 from amazon they're cheap enough!

  • I have these Haylou GT1s and whilst they work fine with my phone they annoyingly disconnect on the pc almost every time a youtube video stops and then dont reconnect until the next one is part way through. Dont know what to do about it
