Cleaning Solution for Bissell carpet cleaner

Hi there
I am after some recommendations regarding economical cleaning liquid or solution for Bissell carpet shampoo/cleaner. I bought the carpet cleaner yesterday from gumtree and tried Britex carpet cleaner from Woolies

https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/94938/brit…

which does its job but since it's 1 litre, it runs out quickly after doing 2 rooms, and it costs nearly $15. So looking after few suggestions as:

1- for carpet cleaning, do I need to have cleaning solution or will warm water serve the purpose?

2- if solution is required, any options for cheap solutions or any other ideas ?

Thanks

  • You're on the right track. Next time, dilute the britex by ~twice what you diluted it at before. The 2L from Bunnings is a little cheaper at $10/L https://www.bunnings.com.au/britex-deep-cleaning-carpet-clea…

You can use just water but shampooing helps get the oil out. Using too much shampoo is not a good thing. If you see frothing/bubbling on the carpet, the solution needs to be diluted more.

  • Which Bissell model did you get? Mine's like PowerClean and I use it with Bissell's formula. A bottle of 709ml cost about $20 from Good Guys which you can get cheaper during their 20% sale. You only use a capful (maybe 50ml) per load and mix it with hot water. Cleaning 3 bedrooms and theater uses about 3 load so its about $4-5 per clean.

    • Yeap, that's the same one that I have which I use the Bissell formula with.

      • I am new with this stuff so help me understand how does the trigger thing work because sometime, even after turning on, the cleaner doesn't start sucking, unless I push trigger and keep it holding ?I am sure I am missing something

        • The trigger dispenses the cleaning liquid. You’re supposed to press it intermittently and not continuously. I’ll see if I can find the manual.

          • @trex: Manual for a similar model can be found here. From page 9:-

While pressing the spray trigger, make one slow forward and backward wet pass. Let the BISSELL advanced deep cleaning formula and DirtLifter PowerBrush do the work for you. caution: Do not overwet.

Release the spray trigger and make one slow forward and back pass over the same area to remove any residual dirty water.

  • Thanks for that, just a thought, is it a good idea to spray carpet with standalone carpet spray such as vanish , leave for sometime and then use this with plain warm water? Will this work?

    • It's not plain warm water as you mix in a capful of the Bissell formula into it. It worked very well for me as the waste water is very dirty after cleaning.
