Contract Time Frame from Recruitment Agency

Went though a recruitment agency (Hays) and had an interview about two weeks ago. I received a phone call last week stating that I was selected for the position but have not heard from them since. They have stated that they're waiting for the client to provide the details of the contract to make a formal offer but that was a week ago. I'm getting a little bit anxious waiting and am not even sure I got the job.

What are people's experiences with recruitment agencies in terms of the wait time to receive a contract?

Keep looking for work, tell them your looking and you will sign the first contract you get

Sometimes clients are slow, sometimes Rex agents speak sh!t

    Keep looking , don’t wait

    • Should I even bother waiting for a response? Are they just telling me I got the job to get my hopes up?

Why not call them and follow up? Then you will know what to expect.

Are they just telling me I got the job to get my hopes up?

No. There’s no reason or incentive for them to do this. Recruitment agents will usually be pretty fast to close the deal so they can get their commission.

Best to call them for an update and continue the job search.

      • I’d call them up and tell them until you get contract you will keep looking

It makes no logical sense but i have had a rec agent say I had a job then they don’t get back to me, didn’t answer phone. they are prolly tossing up between another person or holding off to hear from another person and buying time by b.s. to you

        Or

They could be a legit useless company like say the gov. Etc and they are super slow st filling out forms etc, or need to wait for some head honcho to get back from his/her interstate conference etc.

Could be anything, but either way keep looking

        No different to dating imho

I got another job in the scenario above signed and started, and couldn’t resist texting the agent an expletive , she rang 5 mins later but I never answered… most of them forget you in a week anyway, and there are millions of them

      • gave them a call this morning and theyve said theyre still waiting for a contract to be drafted up by head office.

I’m not sure whether theyre buying time and hope theyre really genuine but I feel like i’ve been waiting for a while for a contract to be drafted up.

whats the longest time someones had to wait for a recruitment agency to draft up a contract?

will also keep job searching but really want this new position so kinda restraining myself from applying to too many jobs

        • So what happened?

They r buying time waiting to see if better candidate accepts.
If they want you they would have contract ready to go.

It’s all a bullsh?t game in my opinion, keep looking.

But also be careful not to jump the gun, always sucks when you sign something which isn’t ur first choice just to get the good contract an hour later

  • It can take a while, keep looking while you wait.

Pimps can't do anything until the client sorted their side out - not Hays' fault. It could be $/finance, jumped the gun going to market before they even got approvals, hiring manager went on leave, paperwork got jammed somewhere etc.

    • Just got an email from my recruitment consultant yesterday and he said that they're still waiting for the client's internal before they can move forward. I hope they're just not telling me that to get my hopes up. It near a month since my interview.. not sure if its meant to take this long
