LED Strips Causing Darkened Areas on TV?

Hello, I installed LED strips on the back of my TV as backlight. Those LED strips are powered by USB, so I just connect them into one of the ports on the TV, then I used the double-sided tape that came with the LED strips to just stick behind the TV.

Three months later, there is a darkened area at the top center of the TV. Within a few weeks, the whole top AND bottom area is darkened. It's like a vignette. Good that the center seems fine, so watching TV or playing PS4 seems okay.

Did the LED strips stuck at the back of the TV cause it due to probably overheating?

  • Most likely due to what you said, is the TV still under warranty?

    • The TV is 5.5 years old. It's a Toshiba. About time, I'd say?

  • +2

USB ports can provide 5W of power each. I don't think 5W of power on the exterior of the TV case could possibly cause damage.

  • Is the uneven lighting visible even when the image displayed is bright, or only when it's very dark or black? And it's exactly where the LED strips are stuck to the TV?
