SMH on Incognito Not Working?

Just noted today that various private browsing/ incognito modes on my phone does not seem to be able to access smh website!
Previously that was definitely possible, but now, after a few articles, gets blocked.
Anyone knows what's going on?

Still seems to be OK on my Mac…..

I block cookies to the website and never had any issues viewing articles.

Works great with Brave browser, which blocks ads and the paywall system altogether. No mention of "free articles remaining" etc.
You do mean Sydney Morning Herald right and not Sydney Man Hunters?

    The methods I use are:

    (1) On my home PC, I use the Javascript Switcher add-on for Firefox & Chrome. This allows site-specific switching off of Javascript & as long it is switched off then the paywall screen does not appear. (It is also useful for sites like Forbes where switching off Javascript also switches off the ad block detection nag screen.)

    (2) On my work PC, installing add-ons is restricted, so I've just put in a quick link to clear my cookies. Everytime I run out of my free articles, I just clear my cookies & I get another set of free articles.

    1. Get the url (copy it from the address bar).
    2. Visit https://outline.com
    3. Paste the url into the field and press enter.

You'll get an ad-free rendering of the article eg. https://outline.com/YyLNtY

    Firefox Focus works

I thought that only worked with hornpub

  • From experience if you use up all your free articles then incognito doesn't work until you clear the cookies.

Close all incognito tabs and open again and the count will reset. Rinse and repeat every 5? articles. Or use other methods mentioned.

On thing you can do when you hit the paywall is cycle through the other fairfax sites, just replace smh in the URL with theage, brisbanetimes and watoday.

    How about paywall on Couriermail?

    • Do a google search for "iamadamdev github" for links to a Firefox & Chrome add-ons.

      • that doesn't work.
I checked the log, it says that couriermail has been removed from the plugin.

  • I got sick of cat n mouse with SMH paywalls and switched to Guardian. It only has an annoying popup.
