Maxxis VS5 vs Falken FK510 vs?

I'm looking for new tyres on our Hyundai Tucson, sized 245/45/R19.

I've narrowed it down to the Maxxis VS5 and the Falken FK510.

The Maxxis is $15 a tyre cheaper, has tested excellent in two recent tests, but has minimal reviews.

Falken FK510 won tyre of the year in 2018 but performed worse than the maxxis in every category in the test. Many more reviews though and mostly positive.

Anyone with any real world experience with either of these two tyres? Budget is 250 each.

Cant comment on Maxxis as I have not tried them but
the Falkens arnt made like they used to back in the day.
i put a set of FK453 (Made in Japan) on my wife’s SUV (also 19”) we were lucky to get 20k kms out of them.
For your price range i’d go a Bridgestone higher end tyre when they have a 4 for 3 offer.

  • Unfortunately my existing tyres are mms away from the markers and I'm hoping to replace them in the next week. Can't wait for any offers

I have had Falken tyres also and would say they are only a mid range tyre with a lot of equivalents.
I would pay extra if necessary for Michelin. On my suv they have great grip & handling, very quiet & smooth ride and they have been long wearing. I have done about 65,000ks on them and would still have 20,000 to go.
A second best alternative would be Bridgestone.

  • Yeah I usually go Michelin, but they are 450 each… Unfortunately, needing 4,this blows my budget.

    Very expensive size of tyre!

  • Costco membership?

    • None in WA

I've got the FK510 on my sedan - no complaints. 500nm of torque and I haven't had them slip/lose grip. Would recommend.

    • Thanks, how long have you had them for?

Any comparisons to other known tyres?

About a year and a half now, nope sorry! Don't really notice a difference between tyres if I'm honest - I've got pilot sport 4's on my other car, had kumho's before, etc. All feels the same to me haha.

  • Votes the Falken FK510!
