Is 39db Noisy for a Fridge

We are currently renovating and im currently looking for a wine and bar fridge for our walk in pantry (the ones that vent at the front so they can go under the bench). The Vintec fridges I believe are top of the line, but are over 2000 just for a small wine fridge. A few of the kitchen makers we've visited are selling a brand called Baumatic which seemed reasonably priced (around 800). They look the goods and run at 39db. I've seen a few reviews suggesting that they are noisy units.

This would go in our walk in pantry so I am trying to work out if it would be too noisy. Is 39db noisy for a fridge? Especially one that will be in a walk in pantry?

These don't seem to be sold in shops like HN so it's hard to listen in person.

Would the noise of a mouse farting be loud to you?

  • Someone gives a bad review because they haven't leveled it right vibrating under a drumy tile or lose board what do you expect

Hmmm, surely this is worthy of a FWP nomination?

Just tell your butler to wear earplugs when they get you another bottle of grange…

Haha, I should probably quit whilst I'm ahead, but…

<rant> WTF though, who cares if there is a slightly higher noise coming out of your walk in pantry??? What are you doing in there or nearby that requires silence?

If you have a WIP that has a wine fridge in it, I assume you have a big house, where you are not sleeping in the pantry or dining close to it in silence, which would be disturbed by the noise of your wine fridge, emanating from your WIP…

If the only difference is the noise:
        $2,000 less noise.
        $800 (possibly) slightly more noise.

Buy the $800 and spend $1,200 on a nice sound system or a door for your WIP…or better yet, save it or spend on the rest of the reno.
        </rant>

The noise of one's wine fridge should only be an issue if you can hear it over the noise of your dinner guests eating caviar and discussing father's latest yacht purchase.

Or, you know, just move it out of the pantry and into the servants quarters. Can’t wait for that post…

“The master of the house moved a super noisy 39db fridge into our living space. I can’t sleep, what do?”

They can't be integrated due to not venting out the front.

HN so it's hard to listen in person.

Chances are, the ambient noise inside a HN store would be louder than the fridge, so it would be hard to listen to either way and wouldn’t give you an indication of how “loud” it is.

It would need to be in an enclosed, sealed quiet room to mimic the ambient noise level of your house at 3am to give you an idea of how loud it would be.

39dB is not very far above a typical noise floor ie. barely audible

  • 39Db is fine. In a quiet neighbourhood at midnight, the ambient volume level is about 30Db; during the day the noise level in suburbia is at least 10 Db higher, so the fridge wouldn't be audibly noticeable.

  • 39dB at what distance? Or is it a Sound Power Level?
