Switch Dock Alternative - USB-C Extension Cable

Hi, so I am planning to get a switch in December. Preparing to buy all the other accessories beforehand from AliExpress/eBay (one month+ delivery) such as case bag, grips, etc.

One of the the things, I am stuck on is a dock alternative. I am planning to get the Mumba case protector which makes the switch thicker. Meaning have to keep removing case before docking. I can skip this by using an extension USB-C cable (M-F).

I wonder which generation cable to get

  • USB-C Gen1 5Gbps $5 AliExpress

Or

  • UBS-C Gen2 10Gbps $23 scorptec excluding delivery

Do I really need a Gen2? Will the game lag or what benefit will I see?

The last thing is also using extension cables can brick the console?

Thank you for any advice

All I can say about the switch docks is be very very careful with 3rd parties docks, there was a particular brand that caused a lot of bricking due to the voltage output not being correct.

There was a recent gofundme where the manufacture; GENKI, promised the correct specs and no bricking, see this link; https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/genki-covert-dock-for-the…

I personally dont have enough information on it all but wanted to make you aware to ensure you do your research prior.

    • Wow that does look good! Thank you will look into it further.

I've use a dock extender similar to this https://www.amazon.com.au/TEEPAO-Extender-Nintendo-Charging-…

    • I saw this! So there is obviously no issues for you? Thanks I will look more into this

      • No issues when I was using it, works the same as docking the console. Don't really use it any more as my Skull & Co grip case fits in the dock with no problems.

        • Oh I was looking at those. How durable/protection would you rate it? Have you ever accidentally dropped the switch with the skull n co?

          • @limucat: Haven't dropped it, I use it more for comfort. The grips on it makes using the controllers in handheld mode less cramped.
