Which VPN: NordVPN or TorGuard?

My torguard subscriptions coming to an end and I'm deciding whether I should renew my subscription or go with NordVPN. I'll be mainly using it for general browsing and visits to China once a year.

Torguard is still offering the $50/biannual deal vs $125/3 year deal with NordVPN however there were 90% cashback deals for NordVPN making it $12.50/3 years.

I'm mainly after good speeds and good connectivity in China. I've previously heard that NordVPN can be very slow even connecting in Australia. Torguard works ok in China, only select servers work well in "stealth" mode but speeds aren't the best.

Should I renew with Torguard or wait for a NordVPN cashback deal?

  • This explains a good reason why NordVPN should not be used. TorGuard is the better option.

    • This shows that both NordVPN and TorGuard were compromised.

(Bottom comment on the page. I don't want to link directly to the shadowbin as I don't know if it's legal or not)

      • While hundreds of others are owned by Chinese companies. They all have flaws.

        • Agreed. You can't trust any of them really, but I wouldn't say that TorGuard is necessarily better than NordVPN based on the article you linked.
(I would say that they are based on performance and customer support in my experience though)

It's remarkable how many people link websites where "This" is a problem.

"This" being "reviews" where the web site is earning money from sales that result from the review. The highest paying commission is the best "reviewed" product and the fools that used the website get ripped off because the cost of the commission is passed onto them.

"This" happens on 1 page blogs targetting one key phrase all the way up to "trusted" sites eg. PCgamer, Theverge

Most review sites are making money from selling what they're reviewing so most review sites are crap: advertisements defrauding users.

      • That's exactly what I linked talks about. Hence why NordVPN is so popular.

  • I find TorGuard speeds to be great. If using a torrent client (for downloading Linux ISOs obviously) use their SOCKS5 proxy instead of the full VPN client. It's much faster.

  • Didn't renew my Torgaurd went to surfshark been OK so far.. 4MB/s on 50/20 average torrent comes with a "Clean web" app meant to block malware trackers and other stuff. Also have chrome firefox app so only browser is behind VPN.

  • Nord just got wrecked so probably not

  • Thanks everyone, I'll renew my torguard subscription.

I wouldn't be so harsh… both providers are good. Before making any opinion, read, gather info…as much as you can, and only then say something bad or good. I've came across this article, which explain stuff with restraint and prudence https://vpnpro.com/blog/nordvpn-security-breach-between-fact…
