Booking a Codeshare Flight in a Different Country

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to book a codeshare flight when one is not offered for just a local flight but is for a connection from an international flight.

So basically I wanted to see how to book a QF Flight with a BA Flight number. Reason for this is that QF give crappy SC's on flights with CX and MH. Their Business class SC's are the same as Flex Economy! With BA it would be easier to reach some status that is worth it!

  • Don't fully understand the question, but wouldn't u just go to BA and do the search for the same leg and book it from BA?

That's what I've done before for flights to nz flown by Qantas (booked thru Emirates) knowing it was same flight

  • Basically I want to join Avios and earn Status with BA as when flying internationally on other OneWorld airlines we earn more Tier Points than Qantas. When trying to book a flight from BA's Website either Domestic OZ or ANZ I get the error "British Airways does not have traffic rights to operate directly between these two cities."

Just wanted to see if there was a way around this, maybe by using a particular OTA?

    • That errors means you cannot buy that flight with a BA flight number.

Typically, you can only buy a domestic QF flight (eg SYD-MEL) with a BA number when it is part of a connecting international itinerary (eg LHR-SIN-SYD-MEL).

  • how to book a QF Flight with a BA Flight number.

    Book with BA.

    • +1

Tried that getting the following error "British Airways does not have traffic rights to operate directly between these two cities."

  • If it's a QF flight, book with QF, add your avios number to earn avios/tier points. Not sure if i'm missing anything?

To get any status on BA you need to have at least 4 flights on a BA Flight number, I dont really do any travel on BA but its easy enough to get status on :)

      • Suggest you go the Australian Frequent Flyer, join - free, and ask there, you have a lot more "dedicated" flyers who understand the best ways to work the FF system.

Of course Ozbargainers are great for flight deals etc, but what you are asking is a little more complex and with business flyers at AFF they know perks.

        • Enjoy
        • haha I did post it on Executive Traveller (AusBT) but might do that as well.

Just thought someone on here might have a work around. :)

  • What is the route?

    • Any DOM or Short Haul International

      I tried BNE-SYD, BNE-AKL both a no go!

  • In order for airlines to sell tickets between 2 countries outside their home countries, they will need specific air traffic rights, i.e. fifth freedom, which apparently BA doesn't have in your required routes.

Don't think there is any way around it.
