Free Upgrade to Apple Mac OSX Lion

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Got an email today from Apple saying you can get a free upgrade (normally $32) to Mac OSX Lion if you bought a Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorised Reseller on or after 6 June 2011 and it did not include Lion, the OS X Lion Up-to-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store.

I just put the date as 6 June 2011 with my serial number etc and it came up free! w00t!

I am not responsible if it charges your credit card, but it didn't charge mine (you do have to put in your card details)
I do own a 2011 model MacBook Pro if that makes any difference..

Would love to see how other people go getting it free.

I always don't understand why Apple charge for OS update.

It is not a complete new OS.

If that is the case for games we have to pay Valve everyday :p

You're kidding right? Microsoft charge more than 10x that much for their upgrades, which is particularly disgraceful given Vista was essentially a beta for Windows 7. $30 is a steal for an OS X upgrade.

OS X upgrades are glorified service packs. (but agree Vista was POS!)

      • If someone charged you money for a Windows Update then you got ripped off. :S

      • Mac books are already over priced to compensate for this :)

      This reminds me of:

It's good that in this case, it's free.

  • good of Apple to do this. However im not hot on Lion. I reckon Snow Leopard will be to Apple what Windows XP was to Microsoft. Business/Enterprise users arnt going to move to Lion in a hurry.

    • The thing is you only ment to be able to do it if it was purchased from the 6th june which is a VERY small window so its not that good of them :(

  • This is not really a deal, it was advertised long before lion was released that this would happen, Apple do it with every release and anyone who just bought a Mac really should be aware of this, and its very limited to who can use the deal.

    • Dude I got it for free and im NOT eligible to get it free.. How is that not a deal? Its a glitch

You are right, its not a deal, it is a glitch. You are in fact telling people how to obtain a product that the licence agreement does not permit them to have.

    • The deal poster is saying that you can lie about your purchase date as long as you have a relatively modern apple computer and score a "deal". Bit of shenanigans if you ask me, especially when you consider how cheap OSX updates are now.

  • I bought my Macbook Pro in May………….and do not qualify…

    • Did u try putting in the date like I suggested? I wasnt supposed to qualify either

This deal should be deleted as it's not a deal, it's a ripoff.

        Oh really?

        Might give it a try.

        sadly I paid $32….hope I can get a refund

This belongs in the forums, its an information piece, not a bargain available to all.

    • Well can you delete this thread then? If no one wants any tips then no point keeping it here.. >:(

  • Apple's cats are getting bigger. At this rate they will run out of cats and have to go to the dogs. :)

  • bah… just tried this with an old serial, doesnt work.
