Need Some New Appliance Recommendations, Please?

Hi all,

So, my son is possibly buying his first home. The place is an older and, as expected, it could use a few updates & I thought I'd pick your brains on what are generally considered good brands for the money. He won't have a whole lot of cash left after the purchase, so I told him I'd gift a few items.

I'm looking for: split-system A/C (one for main part of the house + one smaller for his bedroom), in-wall oven, gas stove-top, new kitchen sink/faucet. I've not had to purchase appliances as we've always rented places, so would really appreciate feedback on your recent purchases.

In addition, the kitchen cabinets really need some help. I'm thinking of replacing the doors to give it a refresh. Are there any companies which do this vs. a gut & replace of everything?

Thanks everyone!

:)

  • I'd go with Kelvinator for aircon, oven/stove can be anything they're super basic when it comes down to it but Bosch/Westinghouse are good, sink/faucet literally can be anything you just like the look of but should be solid brass inside or solid stainless, no plating. Cabinet doors sound like a DIY job for your son and/or his partner if he has one, otherwise I don't think it would be difficult to find a renovation/carpentry place to do such a small/quick job (for them), should be a google away.

  • +1

Fujitsu or daikin for the aircon. We're currently renting a house with an AEG steambake oven which I have found vastly superior to the blanco one in the previous house. Gas cook tops should be all equally good but get one with at least one very small ring and one double wok ring. Pull-out kitchen tap (aldi do them now and again) and make sure you get a very deep sink.

  • Thanks for the rec's!

I'm making notes from here and elsewhere. We're not above doing some work ourselves, but my son is a computer nerd with no DIY experience (he could diagram the torque applied by a screwdriver, but be hopeless using one- lol). There's a vast amount of YT vids that would likely have a lot of that covered for the simpler stuff, though, so we should be okay to do some of the work.

    :)
