Has anyone ever gotten an email from "Big W Online Query"?

I ordered some stuff from bigW online and a day later I got this email

"Dear _____,

Thank you for visiting BIGW.com.au and placing order # _____.

As part of our commitment to customer security, we'd like to confirm your recent order.

If you can please provide the following documents to verify you order.

  • Australian driver's license (or foreign)
  • Credit card statement (Please ensure the cardholder name, card
billing address and card number is included.)
  • Recent Utility Bill (Please ensure the cardholders name and the billing address is visible)

Failure to receive this information within 48 hours will result in your order being cancelled. "

The order number is right but the email address isn't even from @bigw.com.au it all seems a little weird, I've never had to do anything like this for online ordering before

probably safest to ring them up to check

Obviously something has flagged on their system, you won't know what it is without ringing them. Make sure it's a direct number on the actual Big W website and not one attached to the email.

    From http://www.bigw.com.au/help/privacyand-security-content

    "Suspicious emails (phishing)

As a registered customer we may send you emails from time to time for promotions and offers but we would never send an email asking for personal details or log on details. If you receive an email that appears to be from us that you suspect isn't genuine, do not click on any links contained within the email or provide any credit card or log on details. Please notify us through our Customer Service Centre on 1800 251 311."

it asked for utility bill that is just shifty

Quite obvious phishing (scam) email. Send no reply, send no transmissions of any kind.

very strange. definitely don't send those details. maybe your computer/email is compromised… or much less likely.. big w's website.. there must be some way that they got the order number right?

Seems very strange…Btw wouldn't they already have your credit card number when you're paying for the item? Why would they need to ask for it again…

  • ill call them monday and see what's going on

[email protected] was the email address, I know that can be spoffed

    • The address is legitimate. Same one that replied to a query I submitted via the website.

    • I might be legit. http://www.salmat.com.au/
Looks like salmat is a business communication thingy

  • I'm having trouble with an order I made with BIG W online… I sent an email to their help section, in this section it says the following…

PS - It's safe and easy shopping online with BIG W.
Here are a few tips to keep you secure:
    • BIG W will never request your personal information by email - that includes asking for your password or credit card details. You should never respond to an email asking for this kind of information.
    • If you receive an email from BIG W which you think isn't genuine, email it through to [email protected] to check.

  • I called them up and it turns out the order did set off some flag or something, and the email was from then still kinda weird. I ended up just canceling the order.
