Do Not Pre-Order Games from Catch

I pre-ordered Pokemon Sword & Shield Gold Tin limited edition from Catch on 12th October, it still showed the item in stock for 1-2 weeks after I placed my order.

They sent an INTERNAL MESSAGE to my Catch account with NO EMAIL NOTIFICATION four days ago indicating they could not fulfil the order, and have credited my account, plus a $10 credit for the inconvenience.

I have replied, requesting a full cash refund as the only reason I bought Catch.com.au gift cards was to pre-order Pokemon.

I will keep this thread updated with how Catch responds.

    Never ordered from them but things happen. Didn't get the stock they were allocated, damaged shipment, error in system, whatever. It's amazing how people get hung up on not getting their orders here. It happens. Not every store is out to rip us off. Except the eBay price jackers…

        True, if true. There's a multitude of reasons OP may not have received an e-mail and does seem unlikely one wasn't sent/normally is.

    Catch the cheapest pre orders in the game if have Coles Catch gift cards 20% off cards . For some add a 10% off Uni bonus as well .

    You used gift cards why would they refund you in cash. They contacted you what more do you want. You got something for nothing in the form of the extra $10 so they’ve gone above and beyond if anything.

    Your reason to buy and pay in gift cards and not cash is not their problem. You paid in gift cards, they'll refund the same way. There's nothing wrong with the gift card itself, so no refunds for that.

      Doesn't change the fact a VERY POPULAR PRE-ORDER game was still showing in-stock on their website for more than a week after I placed my pre-order, and they've cancelled it.

    Unlikely they will refund cash. There's a reason stores give 20% off their gift cards, rather than just 20% off store-wide.

    Would be interesting to know whether they fulfilled all the orders paid by cash first, then refunded the gift card orders, where they don't actually lose anything.

    That might explain why it was still 'in stock' after you purchased… you are assuming they cancelled the orders in date order.

      Nope, I'm assuming what you just suggested. They've gone for the maximum profit orders first and screwed over gift card orders.

        Regardless, you can't expect them to refund cash when you paid with a gift card.

        Exactly. You're assuming.

        Any number of things could have happened when pre-ordering a limited edition item. They could have had stock pulled/damaged etc.

        It's unfortunate and annoying, but time to move on buddy.

    Seems very unethical that they sold the game on their store after release before fulfilling pre-orders.

      Hasn't been released yet - not due for another 1.5 weeks.

      OP is just cut over the fact that they bought Catch gift-cards to purchase, and since the order won't be fulfilled they're stuck with store credit (plus $10 goodwill gesture).

    it's pretty simple: Catch isn't a regular online retailer, it is a bargain bin website. It should never be used in situations where the shipping time is important.
