Surface Pro 6 (i5) or Surface Pro 7 (i3) Which One Has Better Performance?

Looking to buy a Surface Pro.

Surface Pro 6 (with i5-8250U) or Surface Pro 7 (with i3-1005G1).

Both are priced approx ~$1250. I am aware that Pro 6 has larger battery and Pro 7 has USB C.

Any thoughts which one is better performance wise?

Comments

  • i5-8250U is a better choice with more cores for better multi-threading performance.

    • thanks. that is exactly what i wanted to know.

  • +1

    Check the Geekbench score https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-surface-pro-7-vs-su…

The USB-C on the Pro 7 would be enough reason for me.

    • thanks

  • The SP7 i3 model only has 4GB RAM, vs 8GB on SP6 i5. Something to keep in mind.

    • oh missed to note the RAM difference. thanks.

  • i5 and larger battery is enough for me.

No matter is P7 is the latest models, or USB-C, what I am going to do with an i3? Not worth.

    • Yeah my thoughts are on the same lines.

  • Get the SP6 i5 unless you need USB-C.

That said, I wouldn't buy either. I'd get the Surface Pro X from Microsoft Store and if you're a student, you get a 10% off ($1529).

    • Oh Surface Pro X.. For the look and feel? But pricey and poor app comparability isnt? As for me, the biggest sell of Surface Pro is bring full PC in a practical 2in1 format. I believe Pro X compromises on the "Full PC" aspect.

      • OMG, I just read the reviews on it and it's terrible.

        Please ignore my suggestion lol

  • I bought this $950 open one for sp5 i5 256gv from a seller on eBay on October, the unit is almost as new.

    • Thanks. I will be buying a new one though.

  • So I take it from the comments that Pro 6 (i5 8GB RAM) is gonna beat out Pro 7 (i3 4GB RAM) performance wise?
