Great price for a good quality M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure.
I've been keeping an eye on this enclosure for months now and finally ordered one. Previously there was a shipping restriction on this item which has been lifted now.

• Supports high (double-sided) and low (single-sided) profile form factors
• Grooved fin heatsink design reduces overheating and thermal throttling
• Includes two USB 3.1 cables: USB-C and USB-A
• 1 year warranty

  • Noob question: how would one of these compare to those Samsung T5 drives? Same-same, but different shape (longer and thinner), and with choice of drive?

    (SSD noob here)

    • +2

If using an NVMe M2, I think these would be faster (and more compact) than the Samsung T5's

      • +2

T5's are pretty small. Plus the speed is going to really be bottlenecked by the USB.

        • +1

Could also be more cost effective getting a 1TB NVMe drive + enclosure, then paying general sale prices of Samsung T5's. If you get a standard SATA3 M2 (because of said bottle necking) the savings would be greater

    • +2

The Samsung T5 has a mSATA SSD inside and caps out around 550 MB/s, this enclosure gets to around 920 MB/s over USB 3.1

Unless you happened to have a spare NVMe lying around, what's the logic of getting an enclosure that restricts the transfer speed?

    • For me I use one of these paired with a relatively small SSD as a faster storage and boot drive for a Raspberry Pi.

  • Yeah, nahh.. to slow… any with TB over USB C ?

    • Very expensive

  • No GB?

  • What else is better for under $50?
