Subaru Forester MY20 Wheels Upgrade - Is It Worth $4500?

Hi Ozbs,

Is it worth the extra $4,500 for the 18" wheels upgrade on their website? Or do you have any good recommendation where to get good wheels for the Forester.

Thank you very much.

is it worth the extra 4,500 for the 18' wheels…

    No…

Unless you're pricing up a whole new car, then you can add the $4,500 as part of the total price before negotiation. The actual additional cost you pay after negotiating will probably be about half that (or even less).

Da Faq? really? Are they Gold plated, limited edition, serial numbered? That's a lot of coin to drop on a rim that just has "STi" cast into it.

Take the photos to your local tyre dealer and ask them what they have that looks similar. And they will be about 1/4 of this price.

Any item you get fitted at the time of purchase and added to a vehicle will incur stampduty as well. So, your $4,500 wheel package would have stamp duty added to the top. Get them fitted after you purchase the car.

And also, don't get the genuine ones, because when you go to sell it, the potential buyer wont give a (fropanity) that you paid $4,500 for them.

I wanted Gold STI wheels for my old WRX, Screwbaru wanted $6000 for them, so to yes they were gold plated

Got them off Ebay for $800 instead…

Is it really worth spending the money to get the 18" wheels upgrade? I'm sure that the wheels would be 16/17", and already alloys

    • They don't even look nice on this car…

        I agree.

OP, it might be best just to save the money, and spend it on this:
        - Using proper petrol in your vehicle, as opposed to the cheapest E10/91 you can find. Foresters say they can use E10/91, but trust me, 95/98 is the best
        - Keeping the vehicle clean at all times, using a cleaner, instead of $4500 wheels
        - Buying a car for someone else in the family, I'm sure they would much rather a car, then looking at your $4500 wheels

In my opinion, I wouldn't pay any extra to get any "nicer wheels". The only wheels I would voluntarily purchase, would be alloys, to increase the resale value of the car (if that), when selling privately.

          Well said!

Not to mention, the relentless pursuit of low profile tyres are done for the looks only. The improvement in handling is minimal, yet the drawbacks (comfort, resistance to damage, cost) are huge. Totally not worth it.

IMO one of the worst trends in modern cars.

        • Agree totally. The instant a new car has aftermarket wheels slapped on it looks cheap and used to me.
Stock showroom & neat is the best look for a new car imo.
A friend bought a new car and put a set of other wheels on it and when i first saw it I thought it was 10yrs old…

Absolutely not worth it. First gutter mark these will be worth $500 on scum tree.

and that's where I'll be waiting, in the darkness.

      • LMAO

Right next to you buddy, may the better last second low ball bid strike true.

Side note I didnt like the "premium Rims" on my 17 STI premium, sold them for $1200 and bought black nicer stock STI rims for $800, swapped over the tyres and done. God knows what Screwbaru would want for them, first born I'm guessing.

Is there an impact on insurance premiums if different sized wheels (rims) are fitted post-delivery?

forged lightweight wheels are worth its money for the unsprung weight advantage

    but you're driving a forester … so

No. I'd go 2nd hand Subaru

    Gumtree/Ebay/Faceballs Marketplace

Gumtree: Subaru sti tuned wheels 5x100 18x7.5
Gumtree: 14 spoke jdm usdm sti enkei wheels 18x8.5 55 5x114.3

Just make sure the stud pattern is the same as yours, most likely 5x100.
If buying aftermarket wheels, make sure you check the offset and centre bore size.

Good luck, and please update us with pics of your purchase.

Stud pattern is 5 x 114.3 on newer model foresters ( so all Subaru sti rims should fit)

  • Thank you very much to all. Purchase the vehicle with the standard rims =)..
    Again really thank you
