One way flight from Europe to Mel in Jul 2020

Hey guys and gals

I'm looking at one-way flight from Germany, Italy or Greece on Sat 4 Jul 2020 specifically. Also considering Prague. Full-service seat is about $1200-1300 mark. Also looked at Scoot but it takes about 40 hours from Athens and they don't fly from Berlin on the date.

Would it better to wait until something decent comes up or just book something now in case the prices go up? Or any advice to fly home cheaper - I don't mind up to two transits. Thanks in advance!

    • Thank you! This may work but will keep looking :-)

  • Lufthansa might have a problem with missed legs, but sometimes return flights are cheaper than one way tickets so be creative.

    • Thanks for this. Will keep an eye on Lufthansa!

      • No, Lufthansa are the airline you don't want to miss legs on. :) Avoid them when playing games to save money. Do check other airlines return prices though.

        • Ah, I see now. I noticed their fare is noticeably higher than the others anyway… Thank you!

    • Or even an open jaw ticket

  • If you can move your departure date +/- 3 days you might save a few hundred. Won’t travelling to the departure city cost more than you save?

    • I am afraid the date is almost fixed. The route is not set in stone though so it can be flexible depending on the departure city 😂

      • Which date is fixed?
The departure date or the arrival date?

        • I mean the departure date from Europe :(

  • Try during June. You'll save a tonne of money if you can. I bought a ticket last year for $500 with Royal Brunei one way to London.

    • I wish! Can't change the date much 😭😭

  • could always book a return flight 364 days out, and then u have the start of your next holiday

  • Have you gone through some of the results on kiwi.com?

    https://www.kiwi.com/au/search/results/germany,italy,greece,…

    • This is great website. I looked through them and actually Rome could be an option…

  • Firstly you need to make up your mind about departure. Then consider booking the flight.

    • Departure from Australia? It's been booked already. Last week I splurged my KrisFlyer points on one-way business class for two before it expires early next year.

  • Etihad has 610 EURO Munich to Melbourne 22 hours

    • Sorry can't see that price anywhere. Could you please provide a link if you don't mind? Thanks!

  • Frankfurt to Melbourne via New Delhi on Air India: 559€

    • +1

Indeed. It's the cheapest so far!

  • If you consider flying from Helsinki you could get home Sunday afternoon, check Qatar’s flight 526 on Gotogate’s website, on Qatars own website its 558

  • China Southern have had great deals lately, try them.

Otherwise if you have frequent flyer points, they are a good way to save money.

Otherwise try to fiddle with flights within Europe if you can get a better deal to Australia from another city.
