Qantas AmEx Ultimate Lounge Passes with Carbon Tax Spend

The wife currently has the AMEX Qantas Ultimate and you can get 2x Qantas lounge passes with eligible spend on Qantas. In past times a carbon tax offset purchase from Qantas has qualified for the bonus. So I purchased the cheapest carbon tax offset which was under $1. It is over a month later and still no lounge passes, just wondering if anyone else has used this with a less than $1 transaction? I seem to remember someone questioning whether you had to spend over $1 to be eligible. However I didn't exercise caution on this one.

I tried the same around 3 months ago and did not get any lounge passes. Offset was above $1. Seems like they might have closed this loop hole

    • Oh dam, was about to try $1, thanks for the headsup

Didn’t we already settle this in 2014?

  • Yes you need to spend over $1.

So you had it work with $1+ carbon offset?

  • Has everyone actually registered to opt in to receive the pass?

    • That's WBC not AMEX

Can confirm that the carbon offset doesn't work. I tried it last year with $2 and nothing happened. My brother also tried it and nothing. The transaction description in my statement for the carbon offset shows QANTAS AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIA, where when purchasing an airfare it shows QANTAS AIR AUSTRALIA AUSTRALIA. The word AIR is in the description. I did manage to get the lounge passes from paying the taxes and fees from a classic reward flight. Hope this helps.

  • I tried this recently on some flights that I had booked before I got the card, the carbon offset was $6.50 and I got the passes pretty quickly in a couple of days
